Granted, most people just don't plain have the talent/level of crazy to really DO that, but having that kind of intense restriction on the ability makes it much, much stronger. It's also all but suicidal in it's specificity.
It leaves him relying on the fundamentals Nen wise, which is fine, but a huge disadvantage when most serious fighters or even Nen users have a generally useful ability. I mean, he's not as gimped as a guy who's special power is like "fortune telling" or "removing Curses", but he loses utility badly.
Then you have a certain other character who got so Mad he blew all his loads forever.

Well to be fair, she had a double-handicap.
First she has a shitty Master, so her stats are compromised and she can't use her Noble Phantasm freely. Second, she can't even replenish mana. Third, she was pierced in the shoulder by Gae Bolg earlier and she hasn't recovered from that. In fact, she doesn't recover from that injury until after Lancer dies.
I'd say she did pretty well to survive for as long as she did.

This. Have people forgotten Saber didn't get any prana from Shirou? Worse, he sucked her prana because he was a retard who got himself nearly killed and Avalon healed him using her magical energy? They also forgot that until Cu died, Saber had her internal organs destroyed by the Gae bulge curse. While they believe Archer was still "injured" when he fought Herakles (he wasn't, he confirmed he was fully healed to Shirou a night before). Saber was the one who was massively nerfed.
On her top condition, even with her injury, she could one shot Herakles according to UBW narration.

It stops working when she's not around because it doesn't longer have any magical energy. Shirou was saved by a leftover of her magical energy. It's canon. Shirou was a liability to her. Best for her if someone killed him and gave her back Avalon and she got a real Master like Rin or Ilya.

That isn't how Avalon works. You're mistaking Avalon with how she had to replenish herself. That or really bad translation. Avalon is her NP and works by her prana. It takes her energy when it heals any of her Masters.

After Saber saved Shirou from Kotomine, Saber noted that Avalon with out of mana, hence why Shirou's wounds weren't healing, and replenished its store of mana driectly.
