XYZ was terrible, Synchro was the start of degeneration but at least there were some limits, it could have been saved by good design.
XYZ is piss easy and overly focused on a handful of ranks, it's absolute shit. And they've just kept accelerating power creep by making more and more generic Rank 4s.

Xyz were fine at first because they had drawbacks to using up their overlays. But Konami soon stopped giving a fuck
What if they remade the original series and had Yugi and Kaiba etc. playing modern decks that had xyz and Synchros?

it's not so much a shifting metagame people have a problem which as much as it is them not liking that konami feels the need to introduce another stupid gimmick every 5 years or so to keep the game fresh even though it's never been particularly good
