I always liked that GA makes a nice sliding scale along with Hidamari and Sketchbook of art & SoL series, with sketchbook being the least art and most SoL and GA being the most art and least SoL, Hidamari in the middle somewhere.
And I love all three. Shame we'll never get the rest of GA animated, though.

I went to an art school for a summer program back in high school.
It was a nice environment to study, work, and make friends in.
Honestly, though you probably do not need art school to become an artist, especially with the internet being available nowadays.
But back then art school was used for people to make connections so they could get into the industry easier. Nowadays all you have to do is make a portfolio site and send it to the people you want a job from, but back then you actually had to go out there and seek out those people yourself. If you're lucky and could afford the internet, then sure it was probably easy.
Art school doesn't mean the same now, like it did 20+ years ago.

Finally, a thread I didn't miss!
Geijutsuka PSP VN translation is kinda stalled because of me and my unreliability, but I fully intend on finishing at least the TL itself over the summer, not going to let the hard work of many people go to waste.
If someone drops by to help out I'd really appreciate it; there is, I think, less than a half of the total text left to translate, but it's still a lot of text. Only separate routes are left so it's neatly divided for us into manageable standalone chunks.
And at this point having an editor (and if we're lucky a fresh set of eyes for TLC) would prove to be really beneficial as there are certainly noticeable differences in translation style between four peopleand a couple of places where the puns just don't work in English.
We're located in #ga over at Rizon. Releases are available at http://nodamiki.github.io/ - the old demo with one complete route is still there. TL progress: common route and endings are all done, 2 routes are translated, 2 are in progress, 8 more are up for grabs.

In short, anime spin-off for PSP with a main character who made a brief promo appearance in volume 4 of the manga. A cash-in and not written by Kiyuzuki so it's not as good as the manga/anime, but cute, comfy and ridiculous enough to warrant playing if you like GA, especially given that it's likely the last you'll see of the franchise if you wait for the translation.
