I still maintain, as I have years ago, that was is going to happen is that Guts is going to forget about his revenge. His inner madness and dog will sleep, patiently waiting. Guts won't forgive Griffith but he won't think about him anymore. He'll just be happy with Casca.
It's only when the nobles are going to form their own army to destroy Griffith that Guts will be brought back into the picture. At first, an army is going to be formed out of spite to destroy Griffith but it won't work since Griffith has the biggest army in the world in the biggest castle in the world.
But what's going to be found is two things. One, everyone inside is going to be secretly thrown into a sort of endless Eclipse to be sacrificed. With an endless amount of people getting into Falconia, the God Hand essentially have entrapped the entire human race by making everywhere impossible to live except there. And two, what's making those fantasy monster appear is the giant tree outside of Falconia. If you remove that tree, it's very likely that everything will return to normal. And the only way to do this is to destroy Falconia and that tree.
That's where Guts will come in and Casca will become the leader of this army. It will be an army of mercenaries (who will be placed all over to protect kingdoms since there are no wars anymore). At one part, Guts talks about how mercenaries will do anything just to put food on the table. I think this is actual foreshadowing of how important mercenaries will be, and be paid for by Fanrese's father who has also been foreshadowed to be the main financier of wars.
What is also insanely important to remember is Gut's pledge of war after coming out of the Eclipse. Most people forgot about it but it was still given. Guts is currently fighting a one man war against the God Hand but it'll grow, with Serpico as the leading tactician/strategist and Casca as the leader of the army.

This sounds far off to most people but it's actually foreshadowed somewhat. When Guts was fighting the Emperor and took Zodd help to win, we get a flashback of Sonia talking about a prophecy with Zodd. She mentions how he will have to make a choice, either become a warrior or a beast, with the man who wounded him. This relates obviously to Guts who wounded him the first time they met. But people forget that Griffith also wounded him by cutting off his arm and the prophecy can doubly apply to him as well.
I think that Zodd is going to become bored. The Colosseum was created to give entertainment to the Apostles and contain them. But do you honestly think that'll ever satisfy Zodd? He wants the greatest most epic legendary battle. And who better to fight than the greatest army in the world, with the greatest leader sitting in the greatest castle in the world.
Zodd will likely switch side to the losing human side to face an actual challenge. One he had been waiting for a long time.
It'll be funny too, if Skull Knight and Zodd meet, reminding how they are now together, working for their own benefit and how weird the situation has become. Old rivals, working together for glory.

The point still being that the nobles will pool all their money together to form an army that can rival the Vatican army.

Griffith's side will be seen as the good side while the mercenary army will be seen as an impending dark force from afar, coming to destroy paradise, with only a few knowing the truth that Griffith is the only actually evil and that Falconia is a false paradise.

They'll be everywhere. The world is a big place and has been constantly at war for the past 1000+ years, if not more. They'll have their hands full but if they're paid insane amounts by Farnese's father to get together, it can be done.
Causality is a cycle. As mentioned by Skull Knight. Everything is happening like it was in the past but in reverse.
Here's the likely timeline overall for Berserk:
World is constantly at war. (as mentioned by Charlotte).
Skull Knight makes an empire, unites everyone and stops wars.
Void creates a cult, gets tortured by Skull Knight for being influential, comes back to Earth similar to how Griffith came back (SKull Knight says ''it's happening again''). Void then becomes a messiah, groups people to the Empire and all cut on their forehead the brand, summoning the God and (the angels) and destroys Empire out of revenge.
The God Hand are all somehow defeated and Void returns to the Astral.
Empire becomes small separate kingdoms.
Kingdoms endlessly at war with each other.
Griffith creates utopia and damns the rest of the world by summoning fantasy monsters with the Tree of Life
An army is built to destroy Falconia and Griffith is killed but sent to the astral to become the next 1st God Hand member (as Void was the 5th and then became the 1st)
The world no longer has countries or kingdom since everything is destroyed by fantasy monsters.
World goes back into war.
And the cycle repeats. Guts has become like Skull Knight and has to wait 1000 years for a new messiah to be born and bring down the God Hand so that he might kill Griffith for the final last time.

This brings up an interesting duality between Greek tragedies and how japan view deities.
In greek tragedies, the hero goes against what is expected by the gods, only to find that he entrapped himself even further into fate. And whenever someone does try to defy the gods or fate, they get destroyed horribly. So for Guts to find out that his entire struggle has been a long stretch keikaku by some God and that he has to wait another 1000 years to kill Griffith, that's a pretty good bitter ending and relates well with Berserk's western connection.
But there's another side to it, mainly Japan. Japan actually has a strong fascination with destroying or killing deities. A lot of Final Fantasy stories end with the destruction of a God. And this can potentially happen
There's a theory that the Tree of Life is actually connected to Idea of Evil. Think of the branches as actual roots spraying outwards into the sky. I had an image of this somewhere but I can't find it.

While I somewhat agree with the sentiment, I don't think it's accurate. Everything Guts has done has been according to plan. Even surviving the Eclipse. People think surviving the Eclipse was beyond the calculation of the God Hand because they didn't expect Skull Knight to save Casca and Guts, but notice what happens right after Skull Knight saves them. Rickert is waiting outside of the Eclipse with a bag of fairy dust to heal them. This isn't a coincidence and Skull Knight knows it.
Joining that group with loli witch Farnese, etc has not been a coincidence, but preordained. Guts is like a rock, but even rocks can be controlled by the currents of the sea. A fish can jump and move the water, but it cannot remove the shadow of the moon. But can a fish jump so high and destroy the moon?
