Strange. Psi Kusuo is funnier than Samon-kun and it fits him more.

Is he a friend of the mangaka?

I've skimmed through the manga and it feels like less funny Gash Bell. I do like the protagonist and few concepts though, it's worth having anime with a jerk protagonist once in a while.

The guy will be pretty busy with a new osomatsu and gintama coming back any moment.
So samon has to survive at least for a year or 2 without an anime which is doubtful.

Samon-kun remind me a lot of Sket Dance, where it was a bit weak in the beginning but once they started to introduce new character and build up their world it gotten better. Funny enough Sket Dance also ranked terribly near the beginning but soon raise in ranking and ended up with a 200+ chapters with a proper ending so hopefully that good news for Samon as well.
>>
>>142435439
Well it's honestly surprising.
Jump is incredibly crowded right now so it should be harder for new series to catch on, but so many have so quickly after one another.
And just when we thought the magazine was too crowded for Samon AND Mononofu, Ghost Tits and Kimetsu no Yaiba also end up doing well in the rankings.

I think the next few years are going to be really interesting for the magazine. I honestly think we're entering a new golden age. I would have loved to be a kid in Japan right now.

Nisekoi and Toriko are wrapping up literally any chapter now, Gintama and Bleach will probably end by the end of this year or early next.

That leaves only One Piece, Hunter x Hunter and Kochikame as the only series from prior to this current decade.

That also leaves four more spaces for new series to get popular.

The veteran series in Jump will be Haikyuu, Shokugeki no Soma, World Trigger, Saiki Kusuo no Sainan and Isobe Isobe Monogatari.

Soma's longevity is questionable.
As of late the rankings have begun declining noticeably. The second season is coming which gives it time, but if it's rankings remain low after the second season is over it will probably be rushed to a conclusion.

World Trigger won't last more than two more years if its anime doesn't come back. The series is already past its peak popularity point.

Unless Saiki's anime gives it a huge boost, the manga will end not too long after the anime does. The rankings have been noticeably getting lower for it as well.

Isobe Isobe Monogatari will be around for a good long while, always in the permanent last spot, similar to Jaguar.

Hinomaru Sumo will get an anime next year and with it a huge boost. Kuroko no Basuke style.

Samon the Summoner seems like it will rise to be a pretty notable success.

Despite loving the hell out of Sesuji and Mononofu, I can't seem them lasting too much longer. They'll probably hold out till the middle or end of next year. I don't think either will get an anime.
>>
>>142438087
Then finally we have the four dominant battle manga in the magazine, all close in age.
My Hero Academia, Black Clover, Ghost Tits, and Kimetsu no Yaiba.

That rivalry of a line-up. I think it has the potential (when a few new series are added on as I eventually will get to) to go down among other line-up rivalries like One Piece, Hoshin Engi, Hunter x Hunter, Shaman King, and Naruto.
Or Black Cat, Bleach, Gintama, Reborn!, D. Gray Man, and Muhyo & Roji.

We'll probably have a few more battle series join as well. Lots of really interesting Jump rookies are beginning to rise up. Kei Monri might just be the next Oda; Wonderful Wonder World and Gold were ridiculously standout. Yuuji Kimura, Daijiro Nonoue, Toshinori Takayama, Ryo Ishiyama, Yusaku Shibata, and Yusuke Utsumi all have the potential to crank out a huge action shit in the future.

Plus there's quite a few Jump+ mangaka that could find great success in Jump like Toshinori Takayama, and Naoya Matsumoto.

Not to mention it's about time we saw the return of former successful mangakas like Naoki Iwamoto and Ryuhei Tamura.

The other two Weekly magazines can't even hope to compare.
I'll do a little write up on them as well though because I'm bored, let me smoke another few bowls first and I'll be back.
>>
>>142438170
But before I go into the other two big Weekly Shonen mags, let me first go into Weekly Shonen Jump; Weekly Young Jump.

Weekly Young Jump also has a very brilliant line-up right now with consistently high rankers like Kingdom, Tokyo Ghoul: RE, Golden Kamui, Terra ForMars, Legend of the Galactic Heroes (artist is the guy who did Houshin Engi in Weekly Shonen Jump), and Bungo.
Alongside mid-rankers like Usogi, Minamoto kun Monogatari, Rikudou, and Gunjou Senki.

Now for WSJ's main competitors.

Weekly Shonen Sunday is the easiest to compare since they have a similar ranking system to the Jump magazines.

Notable series include Magi, Detective Conan, Silver Spoon (from the mangaka of Fullmetal Alchemist), Major 2nd (sequel to the original series), Dagashi Kashi, Souboutei Kowasubeshi (mangaka of Ushio to Tora, Karakuri Circus, Gekkou Jourei), Tokiwa Kitareri (mangaka of Strongest Disciple Kenichi!), Kyokai no Rinne (mangaka of Inuyasha, Ramna 1/2, Maison Ikku, Urusei Yatsura), Psyche Matashitemo (Law of Ueki, Anagle Mole), Birdmen (Kekkaishi), Akatsuki no Tyrant, Hatsukoi Zombie, Be Blues (Saikyou!), Joujuu Senjin!! Mushibugyo, Denpa Kyoushi, and Zettai Karen Children (GS Mikami).

The series in Sunday tend to be a bit more light hearted/calm I guess. Just like Jump has a specific vibe to their series, Sunday does as well.
The type of series are really all over the place, as is the quality.
The magazine doesn't really have any idea what to do with itself. A few years ago they had this promotion where they were going to run a shit-ton of new series across all their magazines and barely any of them caught on at all, then the editor in chief changed and a lot of restructuring started going on and the magazine is in a really weird spot right now.
They do have a neat online mag that Jump+ was made to compete with called Sunday Super. I might get into it in another post.
>>
>>142440426
Weekly Shonen Magazine
It's not ranked like the Jump's or Sunday are but based on sales and promotional type things we can gauge the popularity of the different series.
Magazine has a decent mix of rookies, established authors, and long-runners.
The magazines biggest series are Fairy Tail (same mangaka as Groove Adventure Rave), and Seven Deadly Sins (Rising Impact, Kongou Banchou).

Then we have Fire Brigade of Flames (Soul Eater), Vector Ball (Gash Bell, Doubutsu no Kuni), UQ Holder (Negima, Love Hina) rounding up the other three battle manga in the line-up.

Other successful or notable series include; Hajime no Ippo, Diamond no Ace, Fuuka (Kimi no Iru Machi, Suzuka), Yamada and the Seven Witches (Yanki-kun to Megane-chan), Real Account, Baby Steps, Days (Over Drive), Ahiru no Sora, Kindaichi Shounen no Jikenbo R, Kamisama no Iutoori Ni, and Area no Kishi.

They have Club Sunday and Ura Sunday, neither of which are direct competitors with Jump+. Sunday Super is a print magazine that's the equivalent of Magazine Special.

Not anymore.
At some point last year they started ranking them like Shueshia does.

>They have Club Sunday and Ura Sunday, neither of which are direct competitors with Jump+. Sunday Super is a print magazine that's the equivalent of Magazine Special.
Sorry, I was confusing Ura with Super.
I was under the impression that Jump+ was made as a response to Ura though.
>>
>>142443356
>At some point last year they started ranking them like Shueshia does.
I'll need to see proof of that. Keijo literally went from last place to lead color recently, I don't see how that fits with a Jump-style ranking system.

>I was under the impression that Jump+ was made as a response to Ura though.
Ura is mostly seinen, but honestly I just can't see Sunday leading anything in terms of online presence. They're literally the only weekly shonen without a digital release at this point.
