TTGL's success was because of how widely appealing it is. People who have literally never seen an anime before can watch it and enjoy it.
Can't speak for KLK, though. Its possible it was just riding off the success of TTGL, but more people dislike it because it was more niche and the plot tried to have more twists and turns but the writer is painfully average.
