In X/Y, you get the mega for your Kanto starter, Mega Lucario, and potentially the event Mega Blaziken during regular play. You can get a Mega Aerodactyl if you search regenerating rocks in a specific room in a specific cave long enough, but most players wouldn't do that unless they knew in advance.
