It's not really hard. Usually you don't even have to do it, just go to the thread that's already there. About making them though:
keep the OP post short and sweet, generally positive. It sets the tone for the entire thread. People will come to the thread seeing it from the index. A common rookie mistake opening post would have some sort of specific question or discussion point in it. So someone takes care of that and then when you're on to some other topic now other people keep replying to the OP. Yeah they should read the thread, but you know this happens and it's bad design. Also, make sure to pick a high quality image. Don't just use a screenshot or an edit everyone's seen a million times. Grab a fresh piece of fanart off one of the boorus or pixiv that probably most of the people coming to the thread haven't seen before since you just grabbed something fresh.
