It's *very* good. The second series is generally regarded as the best, but the third and fourth series do have their merits. Regarding fun: you are in for an unforgettable thrill ride that never lets up except for the fucking Pickle arc.

>>142302479
I very much hope so. Nobody can ever quite discern how Japanese studios pick what to adapt - beyond "hurr popularity"; so it's quite possible we might get one if the Nips get word that there's a decent-sized fan base even in the West, where we're not *supposed* to have translations.

It can be as gay as it wants provided that it's good, which it is.

Very important hypothetical for everyone: if Jack was having an internal monologue, and he referred to himself using his full name in it, would he think "Jack Hammer" or "Jack Hanma"? Every character has pragmatically referred to him as Jack Hammer despite knowing that his name is technically Jack Hanma. Does Jack view himself as Jack Hanma or as Jack Hammer? I think that, because of the nature of his growth and maturity, he would call himself Hanma: his whole original goal was to destroy Yuujiro. So with that in mind, he *must* view himself as 'a Hanma' to be in that mindset, right? Or am I wrong? Please give me your take on this, I need it for something.

I hate that there are no night-time Baki people. We need to start getting more people on-board with the series. More people like OP.

>>142306725
idk if you know this yet, but the first series isn't fully scanlated; we're still working on it. For the time being, the most accepted method of bypassing this roadblock is to just watch the anime from the point where our scanlations leave off.

On that note: I know I said we were going to have more chapters of Grappler Baki completed soon, and I fully expected that to be the case. Unfortunately for everyone, some of the pages are fucked to death in the chapter that we are going to release next. It's a pain to fix it, and everybody has been AFK or just ignoring the problem, so I haven't had any help with repairing stuff. Sorry I let you all down. ;_;
>>
>>142306725
For your reference: pic related is part of why the early scans of Grappler are so fucking horrible. Nobody wants to - or can - redraw this shit.

you are for THE fun ride of fighting manga.

if you enjoy it you should read garouden too.

Also the first series isn't finished, but the anime covers it well enough so you can go to the second one and know the characters.

The order is

Baki the grappler.
New grappler Baki.
Baki son of Ogre
Baki Dou

While I appreciate the offer, that's not something we would need. The pages are fixable, it just takes time. I would much rather you buy them for your own reading and enjoyment; de-binding books is always so heartbreaking.

>>142308698
>which ones from what volume?
21. The issues are with redraws and with page orientation. Arbitrary example is pic related. Redraws are less common, but are huge bitches when it comes down to them. Even after Oni does his work, I might end up spending anywhere from 20 minutes to 1 hour on a given page.

>>142309010
Jack speaks in katakana because he's a foreigner and an uneducated brute, at that. Typically, mangaka have one character in their work speak in katakana to indicate a distinguished voice, like in the case of a robot or a talking head.
>When Yujiro says his name to musashi
Literally, Yuujiro says his family name is Hanma, and it's written in kanji. He then says that his given name is Yuujiro; also written in kanji. That's in no way relevant, though. The only person in the entire series who ever refers to Jack as 'Hanma' in kanji is the fucking announcer in Maximum Tournament. Literally no other character has done it as far as I can recall, despite them referring to the fact that he's a Hanma.

Oh well, then I'll keep them just to me if I can find them, even if I don't know Japanese.

>Jack speaks in katakana because he's a foreigner and an uneducated brute, at that.

That makes sense.

Still regarding the surname discussion, I still he himself don't think he is worth of the name Hanma yet, he has been humiliated several times and is nowhere near his father or his little brother.

He is a little above the Rtsu, Doppo Gouki tier, but not up with Che, Oliva or Pickle, and no fucking way he is near Memetobe with weapons, Musashi or Kaku.

>>142309374

>>142309788
I don't differentiate series, I judge arcs and in my opinion:

Baki vs Yujiro > Convicts > Chinese tournament > Musashi > Tokugawa's Tournament > Childhood > Prison > Pickle > Ali Jr.

I don't know if I'm forgetting any.
>>
>>142309788
Convicts and Raitai Tournament are much-beloved. Kaku was the most pleasant surprise for me in that series.

I honestly would say that the final arc of SoO was the best, but its material is simply too dense for this manga. I like to think of the difference in celebration as it is with Ulysses and Finnegans Wake: the latter is 'better', but simply has too much.

I think everybody who's caught-up with Dou and/or are kinda bitter should go back to read Doppo vs Yuujiro. It is honestly one of the best fights in the series, and it's bizarre that that's true; given how early it was in comparison to the other most-cited favorites.

I honestly don't *want* to fix the translation for that bit. You know how uncomfortable the actual text is. It'd be a black mark on an otherwise-pure work history. I'm willing to bet that I could convince Spiny himself to do it at some distant point in the future, but I wouldn't count on it.

I'm kind of interested in reading this series since I remember seeing a few episodes of it before, and wondering what the fuck was up with the MCs dad, though I'm confused why the fuck his hair keeps changing color, and how the fuck is he supposed to be 13 in the first sage when he's built like a body building 18 year old

>>142310130
I take some parts of the translation with some kind of charm, just like the Duwang in Jojo, it's awful as fuck, but it's part of our manga culture in some way.

It'd be nice to have better translations, but I'd rather have the first series finished and stay up to date with Dou, maybe have more Scarface and the other spinoffs.

His hair was orange when he was 13 because he was a delinquent/rebel. When his mom stopped preventing him from being hardcore, he realized how faggy it was, and just went back to his natural hair color. His hair never changes color again.

>how the fuck is he supposed to be 13 in the first sage when he's built like a body building 18 year old
Not quite sure what you're asking here - if you're asking why he's huge at 13, it's because he's been forced to be a fighter since he was born. That's literally the sole reason he came to exist, and is a minute plot point.

Another spoiler alert: he doesn't say that. He just says "To become strong, you must devour her!"

Ratman decided that that wasn't good enough, and made up *all* of the dialogue for the chapter. A third of it's in the general ballpark, but just disregard any possible takeaways from that sequence.

Neither. HnK is just less over the top (as insane as that might sound).
>>
>>142315214
Hokuto no Ken is a drama the whole way through without any winding down or awareness of how cheesy it is. Baki pokes fun at itself and the absurdity several times and has serious situations that are also likely meant to be funny

They're more or less the same.

Only difference is that humour in HnK is mostly shifted on mooks while humour in Baki is focused on the big names characters, but they're largely the same kind of straight faced humour.

Itagaki's faces are better than Hara's though.
>>
>>142315293
Good point. I know I sound like a broken record, but when it comes to fun moments, Yujiro takes the cake in this series. He's over the top in a world full of ridiculous people.
>>
>>142311924
I half dropped the manga a couple years ago because of a huge hole in translations, but seriously? Wow

How did this happen?

Every Dou volume comfortably makes over 75k in first two weeks of sales, so obviously it gets over 100k over longer period of time. And that alone puts it in the top of the industry.
>>
>>142315515
It's not meant to be funny. It's a one liner, but it's only supposed to make you go 'wow kenshiro is badass' instead of also laughing with it
>>
>>142315580
>>142313108

I think another anime adaptation would boost the manga sales, like how it happened with jojo, and I know jojo has always been way more popular than Baki.
>>
>>142315293
>Hokuto no Ken is a drama the whole way through without any winding down or awareness of how cheesy it is.
You're mostly right, but some of the stuff with the random mooks is clearly meant to be funny on purpose.
>>
>>142315608
but it demonstrates that Buronson is conscious of what he is writing and he makes it as cheesy as possible.

I refuse to believe that this scene was drawn taking the setting and the characters seriously, the author is laughing at the whole "you are already dead" one liner, and he does it ina smart way.

>Yujiro takes the cake in this series

I don't know about that.

Oliva's always a barrel of laughs, damn, 90% of the time he was on screen during the prison arc it was either really awkward comedy or absolutely hilarious moments like the whole fight with Che, not to mention the moments in Escaped Convict and the chinese tournament.

I'm actually really happy Itagaki almost completely dropped his psycho persona and made him a loveable goofball, that' probably why he's my favorite character, he's the only one who doesn't take himself too much seriously in a world of hopeless fighting junkies.
>>
>>142315723
His first fight in the Kaio tournament was top notch. And yeah, Oliva is pretty damn funny too, but I think it's also because he's (almost) just as ridiculous as Yujiro in terms of power.
With great power comes great off-beat comedy.

batoto doesn't even have this series
pretty sure no website has the full first part translated, so you're in for a world of frustration unless you read the raws

I like the little details not directly mentioned, like how Musashi starting his attacks at top speed is the same, but more refined concept, of Baki melting.
>>
>>142315652
The joke is on the nobodies. You would never see any of the fighters be the butt of a joke. Baki has with moments like Yujiro interrupting Baki making fuck. He's saying to devour her and to become strong, but with how out of nowhere he shows up and puts a stop to it because you don't want to fuck when your dad catches you, even if he's saying go for it and he's the world's strongest man. The Oliva arc is very funny, with Che disrupting the triplets by pissing on them, Oliva's gf being super fat, Oliva flexing out of the tuxedo, Baki snuggling up to Maria and Oliva making a silly face, Oliva saying that if he ever stopped flexing the prison would be destroyed by his mass at the end of a chapter and everyone is looking deathly serious then the next chapter starts off with him going tee hee naw just playing

>>142315698
You're giving Buronson a bit too much credit. Did you read Sanctuary? There are jokes and some light hearted characters there, but also absurd stuff like the politician orgies and the legit main character getting car factories in Japan by YELLOWING the CEO of a company
>>
>>142315723
can't think of any other character besides Oliva, Memetobe and Tokigawa that dosen't takes themselves too seriously.

Maybe Strydum?

>>142315961
>Sanctuary
It's on my backlog.
>>
>>142315961
The fucking tuxedo. Those were my favorite parts next to Che getting curb stomped into a delirium and Oliva just being a complete dork.
>>
so where the fuck can the series go after the Musashi arc is over?
>>
>>142316210
I'm sure not even Itagaki knows where it could still go.

That reminds me I dropped Rintaro years ago and never picked it up again, but it was getting too damn boring after a while, and the ur mum jokes grew old way too fast.
>>142316101
>Maybe Strydum?

Strydum is mostly serious when there's focus on him, he's almost always comedic when he's playing the straight guy with Yujiro or other folks.
>>
>>142316210
Baki version of the Cell arc where all the boys get together and shoot the shit about someone they'd like to fight who would be perfect in every way and he comes 'alive' through imagination
>>
>>142316210
More Hanma history maybe?

Time travellers from the future? Aliens? Mechas or cyborgs? Angels and demons coming to earth to try and eradicate the hnma bloodline becase they are too strong to control when they die because Yuichiro fucked up god?
>>
>>142315723
When was Oliva really more of a psycho then the average Baki character?

Most of them are insane.
>>
>>142316262

The psycho part was after that where he regenerated his flesh pretty much instantly. Just goes to show that you gotta eat big to stay big, right babe?
>>
>>142316392
well he appeared as an spirit, unless that was Yujiro's subconscious imaginary projection or something along the lines, but in this series you can expect anything really.

But I'd bet Yujiro killed him on a match.

Dat's rite.
Now that I think about it, Oliva's super regeneration was really weird, wonder if Itagaki will bring it up again, it was kind of a big deal when Oliva was introduced and it's still the only character with that kind of trait, excluding Yuujiro I guess.
>>
>>142316525
ah I don't remember that, guess I'll need to reread

the only thing I remember about his father is that he used people as literal nunchucks and generally kicked copious amounts of ass
>>

he also pissed doppo because he fought on fixed matches

That's not my point, it's just that it's some kind of supernatural bullshit that came around when the series was still more or less "realistic" in tone, or at least tried to, Oliva visibly regenerating bullet wounds by eating a flintstones steak was kind of esoteric bullshit by that time, now it wouldn't have the same impact due to Pickle, lolmediums and imagination powers.
>>142316720
Yeah, that's true.
>>142316799
Both Baki and Musashi hurt him though, it's not like Retsu losing a leg, but still he had a broken nose and a few cuts here and there.
