Seriously? I thought the whole situation was rather funny. The retarded side character made it so in my opinion.
I used to think he was consciously immortal until he got decapitated, e.g. He has to keep regenerating to survive, thanks to the fire. Now that we know he can live, beheaded, I'm convinced he is immortal. I'm willing to bet he can either regrow his entire body.
