The back of your neck (especially where the head and neck connects), chin (on a side angle), temple, behind the ear, and upper jaw are all a part of the KO zone with big important nerves that connect to your cerebellum.
The hitting back of the neck is hitting the cerebellum pretty much directly. This is why you need to defend against hooks, because they have a big arc that can travel around and fucking obliterate the thing that connects your brain to your spine.
A karate chop uses the blade of your hand, which is actually pretty hard. With enough force you could definitely knock someone out with it if you hit them hard enough.
