Considering that the various schools coordinated to help Ooarai, they probably chose their tanks after discussing with the others.
Looking at the tanks they brought, it certainly looked like they took into account a good mix of armor and mobility, though they lean towards mobility more(especially with Miho's tactics), they brought only 4 heavy tanks, 5 if you count the Churchill as one. The rest were mediums or fast tanks.

Well, without Anzio's godlike scouting on the roller coaster tracks, they wouldn't have realised that the 'dust cloud' was a smokescreen decoy, and they also wouldn't know that the main force was right behind the T28 without Anzio literally being on top of them.
Knowing the enemy's location is very important, and in the theme park, the university team didn't have much scouting done apart from the Chaffees which also participated in the fights.
When they surrounded Ooarai there, they knew where Maho, Erika and Katyusha was and were able to keep them from helping, but they didn't know where the Lee was, and that was why Ooarai was able to get out. If the Lee was kept in check they wouldn't be able to do anything, much less get Ferris Wheel-senpai to help.

Did anyone think the movie was too short? Over half the movie was tank battles. There was little time for the build up. The Boko Theme park was like 100X better than Amagi Park. The Finns were kinda weird. It's like they need an OVA to explain their presence in the movie. I get this odd feeling the movie had more scenes but had to cut to keep it 2 hours.

yeah, the movie is 1:30 tank warfare and 0:30 actual buildup, which I find weird because most japanese anime movies have very lengthy buildups.
I love the tank action as much as anyone but I also love the slice of life / buildup with it, the OVAs are extremely enjoyable and prove that garupan can also work with calm scenes, now I want more OVAs goddamit, fuck the world.

More bath scene would have been nice. So many nice girls. The whole Chitan School in the sauna was funny. The Russian/Japanese bit was Clara was so funny...she can speak fluent Japanese...since the VA is Russian that was double funny. The Miho-Maho home scene was pure HUUUGGGG. Need more. Finished the movie... and wow. Just wow.
For all the spoilers I sadly saw, they did nothing to dampen my mood. The movie is easily a 10/10 in my book, even if it becomes the capstone for the GuP series.Season 2 when?

I was honestly perfectly fine with it. I'd have liked to see more of the Nishizumi household (plus qt panzerfaust), but what we saw of Miho and Maho was heartwarming enough. Honestly, we're all here for the girls and tank hijinks, anyways.Miho's Kuromorimine uniform hanging in her room just waiting for her to wear it again was baiting me so hard. She looked so awesome as a Tiger tank commander. ;_;
