I watched a few of eps of mountain girls because it aired before another show but it was kinda boring, or I expected it to be more niche about the subject. The mountaining was mostly girls going sugoi at everything.

After watching Yama no Susume i tried walking 100 km to the nearest mountain.
My skinny NEET legs only carried me about 40 km which is halfway to the nearest large city (other than the one i live in).
Can't say i regret it, It was a fun and painful experience.

There's nothing but hills in a 100 kms wide circle around where I live. I often go on the scheduled weekly sunday morning town wide hikes with my family. Can't say I meet many people of my age, but at least it's good for the legs.
The anime is way more entertaining than the comic, but the comic has its strong points.
The comic would be better if you were planning a trip, but I'd rather not read full pages of text about bouldering in japan. Also, Aoi's realization that Kokona was desperately lonely felt more authentic in the comic, but overall the print version just has a sadder tone than the hypefest that is the anime.
