Toss up between Boku no and Kiznaiver for me personally. I usually hate SoL non-shoneny stuff but Kiz is entertaining and I love the art style. Also has one of the most eye catching OPs I've ever seen.
Boku no is a good adaptation of the manga.
Re zero is pretty good, but it's too close to konosuba in my mind so I can't really discern it as being outstanding

Those three are the only real contenders.
Luluco is too busy fellating other Trigger works to tell its own story, Kiznaiver has the worst writing I've seen in years, BnHA has the pacing of a snail, and Joker Game fails to give the audience any reason to invest themselves in its characters.

Three episodes in and MC had only just reached the academy. Side characters (if they exist) still hadn't been introduced, and most of that time had been wasted on muh sob story and going on about how All Might needed to pass on his legacy.
You listen to the manga fans and you see they're saying that they really hope there's a second season because the anime still won't have reached the good stuff after 12 episodes.

As a person who hasn't read the source, I honestly couldn't give a shit about any of that. None of this amounts to bad pacing, it's just mangafags wanting their favorite part of the story to be animated. Which is understandable, but not an argument.
I think that whole sob story arc is vital to the story. It gives us a reason to care about a main character that would otherwise be extremely boring, and if that arc doesn't feel like a struggle for us. Speeding through it would be a mistake I think.

Sure; however, repeating it 8 times is not. They could have cut out the endless repetitions of that sob story and moved the pacing forward a full episode, and it would have been a better story for it too. There's nothing more patronising than having a sob story repeated to you endlessly just in case you didn't get that you were supposed to feel sorry for the protagonist the first few times.
So yes, it does amount to bad pacing. That doesn't mean you're not allowed to enjoy it regardless (and good for you if you do), but that is definitely one of its flaws.

How would you suggest they cut it down? What sort of thing do you think needs to be removed? I had essentially no problems with the first few episodes. The sob story is repeated maybe twice, and the rest is developing the story at a reasonable pace. If they did the first arc in two episodes I think it would be way, way too quick.

I found Deku to be somewhat endearing when I first heard his sob story. I became sick of him by the third time it was repeated.
Maybe you like to be coddled and have everything painstakingly laid out for you and endlessly repeated, but most of us are more discerning than that, and found such repetition to be bland and condescending.

If it didn't have Trigger attached to it, I wouldn't have given it three full fucking episodes before dropping it. Seriously, I only picked up Kiznaiver in the first place because Trigger themselves were hyping it up as being the next Kill la Kill. Instead it was a character-based drama with a flimsy premise and uninteresting characters. A poor man's Kokoro Connect. Biggest disappointment of the season.

Similar brand of humour to OPM: an unstoppable main character resolves every situation, but the drama and humanity comes from the struggles of the other characters caught in his orbit. Great OP. Some real laugh-out-loud moments

SOL/romance/comedy that's baiting fujos into thinking the two main characters are gay for each other but they're totally not, I look forward to their tears. Antics revolve around the MC's inhuman levels of laziness, but it's generally made to work quite well.

Personally I'm enjoying Joker Game. I'd hoped for more of a single driven story, but it works fairly well being episodic. First 2 episodes haven't been matched yet though, and it introduced too many characters at once and didn't give us a good chance to get too invested in any of them.

It's closer to a dark satire of 'modern-man-in-a-fantasy-world-number-9000x waifu bait', if anything. It actually explores its premise and goes for the whole 'psychological thriller' angle instead of turning into a bland harem. I expected nothing from it and wound up with a strong contender for AOTY.
I'd say to jump into it with zero expectations, don't compare it to similar works, and just take it as a straight-laced story of its own. If you're not interested by the end of the 50-minute long first episode, then feel free to drop it. Don't drop it after only watching the first part of the first episode though: that's the worst possible thing you could do to yourself.
