Excel Saga made me buy manga. Viz eventually caught up and I had to branch out into other series between the releases.
Digi Charat made me accept anime as a medium, friends had tried to sell me Akira, Lain and Evangelion with no results.
Hidamari Sketch was the last nail in the coffin.
