What is that new city volume js06 just made an entry for?
>>
>>141905053
There are two volumes which don't belong to the original publishing and came out later.
Image City SF and Zenon City Tokyo are these two.
Just like DC for Owari no Chronicle, I guess?

It has Kagami using her Magino Frame as a giant surfboard.

It's great. As is typical in Kawakami works, the enemies aren't really bad people, everyone has good reasons for fighting, and there are no circumstances under which a dash of insanity is a bad thing.

It's written in a first-person perspective, how very unusual for Kawakami.
Also just the first few parts of this novel is chock-full of references, both to world history and to other Kawakamiverse eras.
This bag for example probably says IZUMO.

Those two are illustrations novels that were originally serialized in magazines and later released as novels.

As you can see in this pic, SF is more of a halfway point between a novel and a manga, so it won't work as well as Tokyo with the BT format.

Do a complete typeset with the text in the left box as well or crop it like you did to create a proper e-book?

Well, I'll put it on hold for now and wait for the opinion of you guys while I continue to fight against Hexennacht.

How do I start reading or watching all this shit?
>>
>>141927862
Watch the anime, then start reading the books from volume 1-A.

Horizon is part of a larger timeline, with CITY being last, Hexennacht coming some time after Horizon, and Owari no Chronicle coming some few thousand years before Horizon.
They're all far apart enough to be stand alone, but you can see how technology progresses as time passes from series to series.
>>
>>141927862
You can each series in whatever order you like -- they are loosely connected but by no means is there a fixed order you should read them in.

Horizon has an anime, which is a good way to get into the Kawakamiverse. Another common way to start is to read Owari no Chronicle, which is fully translated.
>>
>>141928212
>>141928922
Oh I see. I watched the first season kinda passively so I'll rewatch that. Do you read Kimitoasamade along side the first book or at the end?
>>
>>141929100
I've been told it should be read no sooner than 3-A, since some characters show up that aren't introduced until then.
>>
>>141929100
The whole of Kimitoasamade basically spans over both anime season and therefore over the first two volumes.
Best would be after you finish 2-B.

>>
>>141905227

>>
>>141933658
Yeah, it'd be nice to have a couple of more developing romances for the main characters after Noriki/Houjou, but it might be from a decision further up than himself. I don't think the current creative climate can allow preexisting waifus to be married off like that, which is why we get to see entirely new couples develop instead (Kristina and her shota).

A bunch of those on the right were other light novels though.
However, since then I have picked up Hexennacht 1 and 2, the second Girls Talk and any other Horizon volumes released since it was taken, so it's probably the right size.

Unfortunately almost all of those books are still in New Zealand. On the plus side, I get to walk into a local bookstore in a couple of weeks and pick up the next Horizon volume.

Does anyone else think that Mary Sue's story resemble Brunhilde's? Kagami is basically Siegfried in this setting, the two worlds seem similar enough and she uses a Scythe and is sort of tsundere with Kagami like Brunhilde was with Siegfried.
>>
>>141932542
I think at least half of them were in one from the very beginning or at least paired up with someone pretty early, or had a setting that basically said: no.

Kimi is impossible.
Nate, Asama, Horizon and Toori.
Heidi and Shiro.
Miriam and Azuma.
Margot and Naruze.

So, there's like 5 of them left.
Suzu, Adele, Naomasa, Futayo, and Masazumi.

And if you take the jokes even further, Cave Woman has food and alcohol while Masazumi has her Mouse.

And when the crane prepared to leave in shame…

>The very end had been so awful that she had cried. Their teacher had asked them if this was a happy ending or not and the class had been divided. >he's trying to recreate the City series
You're probably right on the money, given the title Hexennacht is given in the Era list on the back.
Then again, Owari no Chronicle was also called the 1st. AHEAD, and to date we've still never seen anything else set in AHEAD.

Shit, I`m sorry, didn`t see your post right away.
I`m all for it, let`s split 9. Got 9A gutted here already.

And since we`re talking about scanning stuff, a question for everyone: how will you guys take it if I do text only pages at 300dpi? Got my hands on Epson GT-1500 here. It`s quite good, but ADF scanning is restricted to 300. Vuescan can upscale it to 600 or my usual 450, but it doesn`t look good.

Size-wise it will be like picrelated, plus some additional sharpening I`m still experimenting with.

No. They all self destructed with little, if any, Low Gear involvement.
First Gear was destroyed when the king of First Gear tried to seal it off from the other gears and started a run away self destruction of their dimension. Old librarian stops the acceleration of destruction by killing the mechanical dragon that was out of control and takes the blame to let first gear's people keep the belief that their king wasn't an idiot.
Second Gear was destroyed when the people of second gear lost control of their concept core by forgetting it's name and Low Gear has to clean up after them and seal it before it destroys Low Gear.
Third Gear's king spends thousands of years killing off his own subjects and using them as parts for weapons until only one member of the entire race has the ability to have children some convoluted shit happens and the king voluntary lets himself be killed forcing his son to flee Third Gear destroying their world.
Fourth Gear voluntarily destroys itself after talking with old Sayama.
>>
>>141920864
>>141955249
Fifth Gear is destroyed after a Low Gear citizen helps them end their endless civil war with Black Sun that had half of the world's concept core.
Sixth Gear is destroyed when they tried to control their world's cycle of death and rebirth so it could up with the losses due to the war and they lost control of it leading to their world's destruction.
Seventh Gear voluntarily destroys itself after a Low Gear citizen helps them make the pinnacle of their body modification art.
Eighth Gear voluntarily destroys itself to go with Shinjou because she was nice to them.
Ninth Gear tries to activate their concept dragon and it goes berserk and is killed by the Ninth Gear king pretending to be a Low Gear citizen.
Tenth Gear was destroyed by Ragnarok when Tenth Gear citizens stole the concept core from those in power.
Low Gear's only crime is taking in refugees from the most incompetent groups of people in existence.

Anyone else find it bs that they're having Hourinouchi and Kagami double team everyone? Kagami and Horinouchi alone would have never got past Hunter and they only barely handled Mary after she gave away her techniques in the fight with Hunter which they only managed to figure out and counter with the help of all of Horinouchi's people and the entire American military behind them.
>>
>>141958733

>>
>>141955249
>>141955324

Oh, you're completely right. Wow, I managed to say something completely stupid without realizing it.
>>
>>141958733
It's better than inconsistent powerlevel wanking, at least.

All things considered, having Kagami beat Hourinouchi, then having the Kagami-Hourinouchi pair beat Hunter, then having all three of them collaborate to beat Mary Sue makes a lot of sense. No inexplicable bursts of strength or deus ex machina needed.

The way things are going, all four of them might have to cooperate in some form or another to deal with the Rank 1. Plus, given that the Black Witch is extraordinarily powerful, setting up a scenario where all the major characters have to work together is a lot more logical than having the main protagonist deal with everything alone.
>>
>>141956461
>>141958268

I think the main issue is that she's essentially been a completely reactive character so far. Kagami does something, and Hourinouchi just gets pulled along for the ride. It'd be nice to see some initiative on her part.
>>
>>141951225
He's planning ahead. Kawakami's willingness to leave open the possibility of other works in each era gives us something to really look forward to.

>“The Far East created the being known as the Emperor, gained indirect access to the Environmental Gods, and used that power to bring themselves up to the same level as the world nations. Accessing the Environmental Gods meant they could alter the weather, you see. After that, the European forces agreed to a truce with the Far East. But another land put up such a perfect resistance that they had to be subjugated. …Yes, that was the eastern nations from southern Kinki to Mikawa and from Kantou to Oushuu. It is now said that was used as a recreation of the Imperial Court’s later subjugation of Oushuu.”

Okay, this suddenly answers one of the big open questions about the history recreation: why Japan's history has had such a disproportionately large role. All things considered, Japan's history isn't particularly important on a global level until the modern era, so it's always been odd that the Sengoku period would be treated equally with the Thirty Years' War.

If it so happened that the Far East had control over the environmental gods, though, then it's a whole other matter.
>>
>>141965299
At least once more in the latest book.

>“That was when this world gained its current rules. That was when the Age of the Testament began and the Anti-Decline Pro-Tuning was established. How much do you know about that?”

>>
>>141966661
why didnt everyone else have access to the environmental gods
>>
>>141967018
Probably for a similar reason to why they ran berserk in the first place. Something must have gone wrong in the terraforming process -- it's pretty odd that a civilization capable of reaching godhood would have problems terraforming one planet.
>>
>>141966661
>why Japan's history has had such a disproportionately large role
A second very good reason is given in OnC.

>“The Izumo Aviation Institute has an old professor named Professor Tenkyou. He developed this odd theory known as the Divine States-World Interaction Theory. According to this theory, the layout of ley lines gives Japan a layout identical to the entire world.”
[...]
>“Japan’s shape causes the Divine States to correspond to the continents of the world. All of those continents possess ley lines and all of those ley lines coincidentally pass through Japan. Or so his theory says.” The elderly soldier pulled a fountain pen from his chest and held the map down with his hand. “I will now indicate where the ley lines connect.”
[...]
>“I see. And that is called the Divine States-World Interaction? What good is this absurd idea?”

>“According to Professor Tenkyou, the whole influences the part and the part influences the whole. If Japan possesses the layout of the world due to the world’s ley lines passing through, he suggests we could influence the world from here.”
>>
>>141968454
that sounds pretty mary sue.
>>
>>141968454
Right. These two together give Japan its disproportionate influence -- the Divine States-World Interaction Theory means the Far East has the potential to represent the whole world, and the successful creation of the Emperor gave them the political and military clout to ensure that things worked out in their favor.
>>
>>141968710
no, what gave them their disproportionate influence was an author that knew that JAPAN STRONG would make Otaku buy it like crazy.
>>
>>141955249
>>141955324
You're forgeting that almost all of it was covered up.

1st was destroyed because their king was afraid of other world powers and want to seal its world from the others as fast as possible. If not for Siegfried appearance , who showed them that even man from the lovest Gear could destroy their dragons it probably won't happend that early on.

2nd Gear asked for help with Yamata from the Low-Gear, but the Hiromasa didn't make it in time, so it's partially his fault for not doing anything untill it's to late.

3nd Gear was destroyed when Ryuutetsu willingly killed their last man, and if not for Chronos master plan their race would completely cease to exist. (Mikage was supposed to be just a normal human after her evolution)

Kaoru was the only one who've made the contact with 4rd Gear, and if not for him it would probably survive untill the time of destruction.

5th Gear was destroyed because Thunderson willingly volontiereed to be their pilot and thus gave them power they needed to defeat Black Sun. If not for him - Civil War would continue on.

6th Gear is a tricky one, because there is not much we know about it. As far as I understand - people of 6th gave Vajra to Izumo's grandfather to control Vritra and he couldn't do it.

7th Gear is a tricky one too. They choose to gave their Concept Core to Low-Gear because they take interest in it. You could say Chao triggered they whole plan because of her inexpirienced body modification techniques.

I'll gave you 8th Gear.

>Ninth Gear tries to activate their concept dragon and it goes berserk and is killed by the Ninth Gear king pretending to be a Low Gear citizen.

Zahhak never goes berserk, it was destroyed by their king siding with Low Gear because it was a weapon of mass destruction. It was preemptive strike kinda like with Top-Gear.
>>
>>141969373
>Tenth Gear was destroyed by Ragnarok when Tenth Gear citizens stole the concept core from those in power.
Not exactly. 10th Gear citizens sent concepts out of control to devour world tree, but 10th Gear gods gave Izumo grandafther Gungnir to destroy the world tree and the world with it. They kinda make him responsible.

So as you can see if not for Low-Gear involvement most of the worlds would still continue to exist at least for some time.
>>
>>141969341
And normally that would be enough, in-universe justifications be damned. We should be glad that Kawakami at least has plausible in-universe mechanisms by which Japan STRONG happens, instead of forcing it by authorial fiat.
>>
>>141955249
>>141955324
Well, they still ended up with all the Concept cores in their world. If I had been a survivor of one of the destroyed Gears I'd be at least a little suspicious of how they were acquired.
But yeah, Low Gear did nothing wrong and it's kind of silly how angry everyone is at them for winning. I guess they're mostly just sore losers.
