Anyhow, I decided to rewatch bits of the anime to remind myself of what has actually happened in it so far, rather than relying on spoiler knowledge.
I noticed that the anime really makes it look like this whole situation started when he told "Satella" that he'd save her, even if it somehow applied retroactively, with how the opening of the first episode shows flashes of that scene right before he's dragged into the fantasy world by that black hand. I wonder if there's any taboo concerning making promises to the Witch, like if that sort of thing allows her to fuck with you in some way?

From his conversations with Puck and Beatrice, there has been an awful lot disclosed about the world he's in already. remember to pay attention to those two - they're both practically exposition machines.

Anytime she punches people back to health, catastrophe happens elsewhere in the world. Which causes more people to become injured, and she rushes there to punch them. This infinite cycle of destruction and healing caused more harm than good, but that never stopped her from continuing.
Sekhmet, Witch of Sloth - Pretty much embodiment of sloth, she is too lazy to do anything, even breathing is a bother to her. She chased away the Dragon to beyond the Great Fall just so she can have peace in her laziness.
Daphine, Witch of Gluttony - Always hungry, prefers quantity over quality. However she also suffers from eating disorders and often pukes out the food she ate. In order to end hunger in the world she created a monster like the Hakugei, although they ended up being just as much of a threat. Loli.
Typhon, Witch of Pride - Innocent and unforgiving loli. She punishes evil doers without mercy, and was feared for her extreme prejudice to evil.
Camille, Witch of Lust - A very average looking girl with no exceptional beauty, but her power as Lust captivates anyone who gazes upon her. It's not good writing to just have characters react in a panicked state over things they could talk about. They were all getting along for 3~ days even whilst they KNEW he had some witch relation. Even if they thought he's some weird ass spy/minion no one fucking talks to him about it. Don't play nice and friendly then have characters go nuts, the viewer will only think of them negatively.

In all honesty, the sheer number of complaints anons have had this last 2 months which the series itself has then addressed by the following episode or two, has simply been staggering. It's getting harder and harder to take complaints seriously, especially when it has now reached the point where so many anons are complaining about things that the series itself has already addressed in the past. Not only that but plenty of anons are making complaints which contradict each other when it comes to the MC. Half of them are all like 'why is he showing his own desires and emotions which are separate to mine instead of being a blank slate I can project myself on to' and the other half are calling him a 'self insert character'.
It's getting totally insane. The dumbest part about it all is that there are legitimate criticisms of this series which can be made - but those are never seen because anons would rather stick to their narratives they've invented.
The real reason for his suffering is because he is stupid. He literally refuse to fully utilize his powers on every death. He shoild have at least sacrifice 2 of his resets to learn magic. 1 more reset to see the extend of his power and see how much bullshit he can tell other people about his powers in a roundabout way. Why the fuck does he care about some half elf girl? Seriously, after the first time he died you'd think that he would just ask Roswaal for a fortune, leave and party it up. Why did he feel the need to follow her around? I'm aware that he's acting overly cheerful to mask and cope with his anxiety and stress but the MC acts like a goddamn middle school kid constantly. It would also be nice if we saw some character development in any of the characters but in order to have that you need your characters to actually have a personality in the first place. The writers haven't done a terrible job of that but given that we're 8 episodes in a 25 episode season I'd expect the characters to be more fully fleshed out then they are especially considering that almost all of the screen time is devoted to only 7 characters and they all have a fairly small amount of characterization considering how many episodes this show has been airing.

Following your path would get you killed by the inhabitants of the mansion every time, and even if you mastered shadow spells to the point where you could escape (remembering you'd unlearn everything except the knowledge of how to do the spells each loop so that could be impossible anyway) - then you'd be running for your life from the mansion armed with only a week or so of magic training, a metia, and stinking of a witch.

MC acts as if he's being taken into a reasonably analogous world to an RPG, acts as if he's familiar with said kind of settings. Tries to be self aware in some regards, gets punished for thinking he is the hero, but still fails to research his new surroundings after the first 3 episodes.
It feels artificially drawn out because he should be doing some very, very basic things if not to just learn about the new location, but for the viewer to also receive world building. As others pointed out, the author is probably going for the mystery angle and why we slowly learn about the witch and politics, but it's at odds with his introduction and how he learned/tested the new world early on (currency, auto language translation, learning from deaths etc). He just suddenly stops asking the right questions and settles down with 'I want to fuck the elf'.
