Things are getting better, and there are really interesting female characters these days, even in some fighting anime, but a lot of the big, super popular ones still fail in that regard. Naruto was shit the way the OP thinks Bleach is shit. One Piece has what, two women who are recurring characters? I've stopped paying attention.
Even when women are violent and capable, many of the series are things where they're sequestered off into a story specifically about women, not in a mixed group. And how many anime have we all seen where a woman's power and interest is so intrinsically connected to her sex appeal towards men that there's really little else about her?
Again, there's a ton of good ones, and a lot of the examples in this thread so far are perfectly what OP is looking for.
That said, it's certainly a problem if you actually LIKE capable women, that so many of the most popular shows fail to provide them, or even if they do provide them, don't let them do anything.

We're specifically talking about action fantasy stories with superpowers, where nobody actually follows the rules of physics. Take One Punch Man for example. Physics are that world's bitch. There's tons of superheroes, people who have gained power and inhuman abilities through, basically, will of mind.
Yet in the first season we saw one singular female hero? If we were talking about goddamn firefighters I'd understand it, if this was a boxing show I'd expect no women to be in the men's league because of the same reasons in reality, but in fantasy, the only reason for women to not have super powers (outside a literal, you know, story reason) is because the author focused on writing men, or forgot about women entirely, or just didn't think about it, or who knows what.

Do you realise that if that phrase were upheld to a paranoid degree by all /a/nons in a similar manner to how you do, it would discourage or eliminate ALL discussion threads, and only promote circlejerk threads, either negative or positive, of a single show per thread, so as to "ensure the OP isn't secretely trying to get recommendations of similar shows, or he hasn't seen the show he posted and wants to know if its good or not".

Both of those are fine. The reason people are told to lurk more is because their posts are bad and counteractive to discussion on the board, the same qualities which define shitposts. This isn't a coincidence.
It's the same deal with rec threads, they take up board space and don't offer people who have been here a long time contributing anything to talk about. All it is, is users shoving recommendations down the OP's throat. It's a waste of space on the board, and worse, promotes that kind of behaviour, similar to people asking for the source on an image when the source is literally at the top of the google image search.
The problem is that newfags come in, lurk, see the "lurk more" and "fuck rec threads" posts and etc, and never stop to question WHY those posts are being looked down upon, and just parrot it endlessly in situations that don't warrant it, which just ends up being more shitposting and completely opposing the reason those rules exist in the first place.
Basically it's perfectly acceptable to get recommendations from /a/, as long as you're doing so by observing ongoing conversations and discussions made by people who have things to say about the series, and not disrupting those discussions just to get spoonfed information that's readily available elsewhere.

I used that as an example but I wasn't actually thinking of those thread. Because you're right, that's about what they're for. There was this thread about lewd reaction images and some people started asking for sauce and complaining that the (obviously cropped) images were hard to back search for.
It just got annoying and they basically derailed/highjacked the thread. It's the entitlement that I find cancerous. As if people are owed the sources.
