Unless they were lying through their teeth in the earlier event interviews/reveals, the series will follow a more serious and military focused approach.
Not to mention the setting is drastically different. Unlike the 501st who had cozy fully supplied castles and only worked as coastal defense, the 502nd is smack dab in the middle of the eastern front (the in-universe center of the war and they aren't exactly in the winning momentum either) and they're the squadron known for their very abrasive combat tactics and scraping the bottom of the barrel for supplies they desperately need.
Whether this is an improvement or not depends on you.
I just need to see Nao punching a Neuroi to death.
