It undoubtedly was a pretty good adaptation relative to the source material, but that's mainly due to the studio not sucking dick on the action as well as the importance that SAO the LN translates rather well into real-time animation unlike most MMORPG LN that rely on talking is a free action, which ranges from series like Overlord that does it regularly but still reigned in a bit, to Log Horizon where they can practically give a speech mid fucking combo. SAO basically just has monologues which are just putting your instinctive momentary thoughts into word form that usually is never that damn clear but would be jarring to the viewer if it wasn't. Even something like Mahouka where Onii-sama is practically faster than Light Speed, or Raildex where Light Speed is nothing to top tiers means shit because the way the story is written they can't avoid speeches in action.

I'm not saying they should keep doing (C9X), they should actually change genre shift if they can work out a deal with their current publishers.
