Based on my observations, the seconds thing is related to the gas pressure in her guns. I guess she can release the gas in a shorter time interval and it delivers higher pressure than a longer interval, so she tries to estimate the approximate time the battle will last in order to make the shots as strong as possible while also not running out of gas. Then she has a small emergency tank or something, in case she takes a few seconds longer.
She's pretty retarded though, because if she had the right valve (which probably doesn't exist in that universe, but it isn't really hard to invent) she could release gas selectively instead of doing it continuously.

The drama and a lof of other aspects of this show are really weak.
The conflict is so incredibly forced and exists mostly because the characters don't know how to communicate while not being retarded. Plus the people's priority seems to be to stir shit up.
Mumei knows that people don't trust them and then decides to go into a crowd of paranoid people and asks for blood instead of trying to have a private conversion with for example that other girl who is more trustworthy and explain the situation to her.
The MC saved fucking everyone's life. They'd be certainly dead without him and they're constantly trying to kill him or Mumei. Before the MC accidentally attacked that one girl, there was a lot more evidence to believe that they really are on the people's side. It's not like they aren't allowed to have their doubts, but they're going way too far.
Then there was the pregnant woman. It's been pretty much established that every Kabane must be killed. People hate the Kabane so much that they even want the Kabaneri, who up to that point displayed no behavior that resembled the Kabane in any way and saved their asses multiple times, to be killed. Then there is this woman who is clearly 100% Kabane and killing her is somehow wrong because she was pregnant. What did they want to happen? What would they have done?
At this point it feels more like the people have some personal grudge against the MC and Mumei and they jump at every chance they get to try to blame them and then kill them off, even if they have to use some completely retarded logic in order to justify their behavior.

-How does a single strike from Kurusu turn Ikoma back to normal?

-Apparently attacking someone for blood is seen as perversion, there was no need to joke around considering the gravity of the situation
