I think Historia learned to appreciate her life. She's sure not the happiest person around but she can enjoy herself with the orphans, for as long as it lasts. But personally I think his development was realistic and well executed so far. He was his usual (albeit more determined) self when Zeke threw him, but seeing what happened to Reiner put him in a position where he should make a decision really quick, something that could kill Reiner if it happened. Then he met Armin and Armin used Annie again as bait which sealed the deal for him. He doesn't think the humans are evil but he was almost forced to set all his feelings aside due to the circumstances.
Basically saying that now he's strong willed or a different person is a misinterpretation, now he's just dead inside.
