Okay I'll bite.
Flying Witch is very well directed in a way that plays with its muted tones and low-key visuals along with an extremely likable cast to generally create a show that feels like it just wants to be as comfy for the viewer as possible. Meanwhile the magical side is presented in a way that takes what could have been very obnoxious and overly-fantastic and just creates a world for the viewer to casually explore with the characters at a pace that matches the visuals, all the while being set against this beautiful backdrop of of varying architecture and natural beauty that manages to be interesting in its own right without being overbearing.
Sansha Sanyo isn't strictly doing much new, but it is playing with several tropes of its genre that is entertaining to say the least. The generic models that each main character are built around are twisted just enough to be refreshing and allow for some good comedic scenarios on their own, with a strong supporting cast that the main characters can play off to create strong jokes that land well. Also the animation is honestly superb. Dogakobo are putting effort in where it really isn't expected.
I could go on, but I think those two have the best chance to be top of their class by the time the season ends. inb4 "nice blog faggot" or "didn't read".

I get where you're coming from, but I think he actually is, and that's the point. It's just not trapped in the way that you think. Unlike something like Log Horizon, where it's a player trapped in the game, he's stuck as a CHARACTER in the game.

Flying Witch lacks that distinct emotional catharsis for me which shows like Aria, NNB, Hidamari, or even Anne Happy this season during its latest episode had in spades. The way the show and its cast just ebbs and flows every episode certainly evokes that calming mundanity the anime happens to nearly perfectly deliver but that's sort of where my appreciation ends for it. It's just sort of there, it's that reason why I like Chinatsu the most out of the characters --- she's the most dynamic entity in the series in theme and in attitude. This is how I felt with the manga as well.
But don't get me wrong, Flying Witch is definitely above average especially when it dabbles in its fantasy segments but it simply doesn't stir in me the nostalgic dormant feelings I once had like all the other top shows in the genre has done.

It's a similar style of humour as One Punch Man. The protagonist is unstoppable, and the focus is on the much more human entire rest of the cast, as they struggle and compete to do that which the protagonist succeeds at without effort. It's cathartic to watch as various girls fail to seduce him and various guys fail to be seen as cooler than him. All of that only works because he has a ridiculously humble personality too.

Funnily enough, PSO2 ended up being one of the best anime last season while it was supposed to be the worst. Konosuba, Galko-chan and PSO2 were the only things worth a damn. This season, I'm watching and enjoying more than 10 anime every week thus far. It's the best season in a year and a half for me.
