Let's see if there are any Historie fans still up on a late Monday night.

SUP SENPAI
That boy ain't right, I tell you what.
>>140700653
>"HIM?"
>>140700683
>It's time to use "THAT"
Last time I read this, it was the campaign against Thracian tribes.
Count yourself lucky that Eumenes wasn't killed on your "errand", Antipater.
>>140700753
Since the end of that Eastern campaign, we had some Eumenes going to Athens to meet with Phocion and another important person, and the Battle of Chaeronea just concluded last chapter.
This chapter is just setting up the arc for Philip's assassination and possible estrangement with his wife and son.
I think I translated Menander as Menandros in the chapter he originally appeared in way back when. I used Menander in this chapter since I am using Latinized forms for most of the characters name (Alexander instead of Alexandros, Philip instead of Philippos, etc.)
Just another reminder that the unfinished art is fixed for the tankoban releases. You can download them all here: https://mega.nz/#F!Z1cxXIiS!pgGmqlDCBnZ16NvPmEblCg

Oh, it's time for old men praising Eumenes' brilliance again.
>>140701262
the faces man
How often does this update, monthly?
>>140701278
Bimonthly. Iwaaki is old and doesn't use assistants. I'm a big fan of the faces though.
>>140701312
Bi monthly??
Damn that's worse than ravages of time. Shieeet
>>140701342
What is RoT's schedule?
>>140701373
I'm... not 100% sure actually. I think it might be twice a month, which isn't actually that bad. It just feels bad, man.
Three unique posters.

I don't expect much, especially on a late Monday night. Historie threads were never much populated, since I picked it up from where Kotonoha stopped like 7 years ago.
It's one of those manga where a fair amount of people who read seinen manga have read, but it's hard to get them all together at one time for a discussion.
>>140701491
I'm lurking. Well, not anymore but whatever.
sup
Pretty interesting idea that Iwaaki/Eumenes came up with. If the phalanx is weak on its unshielded right flank, just plug it up with left-handed phalanx with shields on the right.
Obviously sounds better on paper than in practice. For instance, since left-handed men are much rarer, even a few losses could critically compromise that entire unit from being functional, whereas you can easily replace right-handed soldiers to merge, divide, and reorganize new syntagmas.
Count me in! I'm reading Historie but I'm only around chapter 80. Need to catch up with it soon!
>>140701883
>idea was rejected
aww
I don't forsee this finishing before the time I die, and I'm quite a bit younger than Iwaaki.
I wish I could just forget about it for a couple decades then read a bunch of chapters at once, but I always end up catching up before too long.
Wew, based Hox.
Thanks friend.
Ah, the "classic promotion of marginalized ethnic minorities who'd be fucked without the ruler's support, and hence more likely to be more loyal than the natives."
The Brits would be proud.
>>140701953
Even if Iwaaki doesn't complete it (knock on wood), all I hope for is just some more good chapters during its run.
When's it time for Phillip to go to the theater?
Are there any other good manga like this? I've already read Historie, Kingdom and Vinland saga. I enjoy the style and setting
>>140702080
Do you simply want something involving historical-esque settings and politics/warfare? If so, try manga like Gunka no Baltzar, Shoukoku no Altair, Song of the Long March, or any of Yokoyama's historicals (Chinggis Khan, Date Masamune, Sangokushi).

ravages of time
your welcome
>>140702000
The Ottoman sultans did it too with the janissaries. Seems to be effective at least in short term, if you want to destroy the previous military class, and rebuilt it to be loyal to the crown. Didn't that indirectly make the Ottoman a latecomer to adopt the idea of mass mobilization?
>>140702054
Iwaaki might play it differently. I'm not sure if he'll even bring up anything homosexual, since he ended up making Hephaesteus as Alexander's split personality.
>>140702164
I should point out that on this page, Philip literally says "Let us go meet" and the object of the meeting is ambiguous as per the rules of the Japanese language. I took the logical choice and assumed it was Eurydice by translating it as "her", but in the small chance I'm wrong, I'll point it out just now.
Annnndd... it's another 2 month wait. Will Eumenes get NTR'd or not? Find out next time on Historie!
>>140702080
Youhei Pierre
>>140702207
The Ottomans invested them with too much of the share in the state's military power without a real counterbalancing force. The French and the Brits had it easier since they always retained military power of their own to wield in case their puppets got out of hand.
>>140702304
Thanks Hox-sama
>>140702304
>Annnndd... it's another 2 month wait.
It's amazing that you and others are still keeping up with this. It's like a masochism of some sort.
>>140702515
Honestly, waiting doesn't bother me. Maybe it's because I'm getting old, but the months usually fly by. I've got no problem passing the time by reading other things.
>>140702208
the incident always seemed sketchy, a lot of good ways he could gofucking hype for it was all alex/hayphay
>>140702304
Thanks.
>>140702515
Bi-monthly updates are not even remotely close to masochism.
>>140702674
Even if it wasn't Alex, I assume Iwaaki will show the ruthlessness of Hephaesteus in putting down any possible claimants to the throne and killing off nobles of questionable loyalties.
>>140700463
was wondering when the new chap was going to be released, tx Hox
>Eumenes is going to return to Paphlagonia in wars of Diadochi
Too bad we're never going to see it because Iwaaki is old and slow.
How old is Iwaaki-San?
>>140703735
55 according to wiki. Japs are known for their longevity so let's pray he can at least work on Historie for another 10 years.
>>140701491
Lurking is an art form.
>>140702304
Praise the Hox
>>140703834
Thanks! 55 nowadays is still pretty young! I'm sure he can go on for more than 10 years.
Historie thread. Cheers mates.
Thanks as always Hox.

What if he still can work on it, but everyone here can't read it?
>>140702304
Late to the thread senpai, I just realized Philip II is about to steal his girl isnt he? Thinking back to what I've read about Alexander's rule and the movie, holy shit a lot of people in power around him died didn't they.
>>140707742
>mfw I just read about Eurydice
Eumenes just doesn't get a break does he?
Thanks Hox.
>>140700463
REAL FALCO HOURS WHO UP
>>140700937
Menandros sounds tougher! Then again he got whooped by Eumenes with stirrups so he deserves the downgrade.
>>140703713
my bet is manga will end with the beginning of Alexander expedition
>>140708432
>foreshadows the shit that'll get him killed in wars of Diadochi
>ends manga when shit gets real
>>140701373
The Ravages of Time is bi-weekly, cause Chen Mou got bullied by his wife and kids. We're lucky his love for Lu Bu got us those weekly high quality art chapters for so long.
>>140708432
I'm guessing it ends with the death ofIwaaki.
>>140708240
He doesn't in history books, as I was reading this chapter it did remind of this this video I watched the other in terms to what I was also talking about in my previous post, if anyone watches you can stop at 4:40.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltT_CvI5wv0
>>140702304
He will
>>140708432
If he managed to get to the major battles that Alexander won against the Persian Empire I'd be happy with that.
>>140703834
So 60 chapters at the current rate
Which is fine. The depiction of Chaeronea was fun to read if a bit iffy, I have doubts Gaugamela, Issus, Tyre or the Hydaspes will be featured that much at the current rate.
>>140701953
One thing that's sad is Iwaaki won't use assistants. The reason makes sense, yet in the big picture, it also means he has no real means to pass down his skills, which is mainly being a minimalist in art. It's crazy how such simple faces can convey so much while at the same time, look really awkward if you're just taking a quick glance in a OPT or something without context.
>>140708692
Is there any reason behind this?
>>140708779
Probably cause he's a perfectionist or just isn't people person enough to take help like that. It's no different than translators not wanting to work with others on projects, only it's during a real job.
>>140708535
Forgot to mention one other thing in this post, Imagine if Alexander managed to live 15-25 years longer, would he of consolidated his base of power and left heirs old enough to take over after his death. Or would the the end result be still be the same and war between his generals would still break out?
>>140709135
He was doing syncretism way too fast and getting paranoid so he would probably have ended up getting murdered later too instead of it happening early.
>>140701048
Thank you, hox.
