The Rider/Waver stuff got a little too goofy in a few scenes, for my tastes. But that's not why I considered dropping it.
The first was episode two or three, after the first melee at the docks. It seemed trite that all these super dangerous servants saw fit to make an appearance and have a little scuffle, but that absolutely nothing significant happened because of it. Everybody just left and nothing happened. It seemed, there, like the writers had just suddenly stopped giving a fuck.
The second time was episoide ten, titled >Rin's big adventure. Really almost dropped it there.

The writing seems to be circling around the idea of making something happen, but nothing did happen. Even for a show as uneventful as this has been so far, this was particularly uneventful and poor, with surprisingly little animation given the production values this has had to date. Besides the decision to skip showing any of Saber and Shirou's practice duels, the frame sticking on a flickering lamp for ten seconds in the middle of the conversation with Archer was the worst moment of the many static conversations in this episode. Shirou getting all hot and bothered by Saber being near him seems to go against all the characterization of him we've had so far.
I wonder how many more times someone can come along at the last second to save Shirou when he's trapped and about to get killed.

F/SN has always been generally regarded as having both clever twists and good writing, it wasn't until the UBW anime started airing that the secondary hate base emerged to backlash against all of the hype/popularity.

There are two central battles in this episode - Rider vs Archer, and Saber vs Berserker. In these two battles, I think this episode more than ever shows the definitive difference between "kings" and "knights" as established by the series up to now. All the development of the Servants comes full circle here as we see the true meaning behind what it means to truly be a king.
A king is a leader, one who holds within himself the ultimate authority of his rule, and his pride commands that he treats all others as subjects or rivals, without compromise. A king is not just one of the guys. You cannot lead if you are trying to be equal to your subjects. You must stand above them and be seen and respected like a god.
Gilgamesh is a king, even as a Servant he is the king of kings. He takes no shit from Tokiomi, and never treated him as someone he respected or followed. He treats Kirei as a curious partner, but expects to be respected as he should be. The partnership works because Kirei recognizes what his Servant is, and treats him accordingly.
Iskandar is a king, and this is a point which took Waver a while to realize. At first he treated him as a mere Servant, and was annoyed by how they were not giving each other the full attention required to move forward in the Grail War. With time and experience he started to learn who Iskandar really is, and how he thinks. With newfound respect for his king, their relationship changed into one of true friendship and loyalty.
This is a direct contrast to the sort of petty fights of honor fought between Saber and Lancer. It is no coincidence that in all those battles, they could never complete the battles on their own terms, because of interference from their Masters. This shows that they have the mindsets of mere knights, and will always be simply cogs in the larger machinery they are part of. Thus Saber is not a true king at all, but a knight who happened to be given the title of one.
Archer represented complete dominance. From the very outset, he understood that the entire world was his, and that he existed on a higher plane than anyone else. He had all of humanity's greatest treasures stored away under his control, and he was said to have ruled all of humanity back when he was still alive. To prove his point, he had in his control the weapon Ea, the legend that created the very world that exists today.
Rider represented total conquest. His fame and glory comes from the fact that he was gifted with neither; he had to take them with his own hands. He knew that he was just a small person in a large world that he couldn't possibly hope to even comprehend, but his acceptance of this fact just made him want to conquer it even more. He sought to acquire that he did not already possess, even if what he sought after could not be reached.
To Archer, Rider challenged the very foundation of his control by declaring that he would take it for himself. To Rider, Archer represented his ultimate ideal: a man that can legitimately claim everything as his own. So it is rather fitting that the battle at its very core was a battle over distance: Archer would do everything in his power to subjugate Rider before he could reach him, while Rider would do everything in his power to strike Archer before he broke him down.
In the end though, Rider would never come to reach Archer. Rider was a man defined by his limits, while Archer inherently had none. On the other hand, Archer would never be able to break down Rider. Even as everything Rider possessed was stripped away by Archer's vast weaponry, he could not destroy Rider's dream as that was the very thing that allowed him to accumulate those possessions in the first place.

I've got a big fight-scene Frodo that's been bouncing around my head for a while. Kuzuki vs Shirou, the church, UBW. Before the fight, Shirou has seen (and thus traced) Rule Breaker. A large amount of Kuzuki's speed/power comes from his connection to Medea/her buffs. Shirou fights Kuzuki, with RB in his stock of NPs.
Why the hell didn't he use it? RB doesn't even need to break skin to trigger. Kuzuki wouldn't be able to block at all, he would only be able to dodge. A single tiny touch from RB would immediately blow away his buffs, leaving him incapable of killing Shirou (if he can tank kicks from Rider with UBW, he can take a hit from a high-tier human) and putting him, and Caster, off guard. Then Rin would be clear to beat the shit out of Caster, and even if Kuzuki did intervene he wouldn't be able to knock her across the room.
If Shirou had just thrown out a surprise RB, he and Tohsaka would've dominated.
