He took advantage of this to get his fantasy to have her. Hikaru did love her, his feelings were serious (and no, he didn't love Misa more, according to Kawamori; maybe equally, eventually). When Hikaru says she'll have his songs is because he realized before her that their relationship was based on an illusion. They became adults, moving where they belong, and they are incompatible.
The DYRL movie was about Minmay too, even if she wasn't the POV, it was about her journey to maturity wrapped up. Her feelings there was infatuation for the idea of loving someone. It's very interesting that Kawamori added that if Minmay had been around when Misa and Hikaru returned to Macross, Hikaru wouldn't have picked Misa, but she wasn't, so he made his mind for Misa when he heard Minmay's song. At the end, it was about Minmay getting ready for the future, after realizing her real feelings (she didn't love Hikaru), so she smiled at Misa without hard feelings. Both women understand they finally got what they wanted. Minmay more inspiration for her music, and Misa has Hikaru. Hikaru and Misa are Minmay's best friends.

This means Ranka was indeed meant to be showed in a bad light in episode 20 vs Sheryl who stood up and became, in Kawamori's logic, a star who sang not just out her own selfishness and wasn't just 'an idol' misled by her feelings. It shows that Freyja, who wanted to be a Walkure member against her parents' will, also had the determination to do it and sing for others, disregarding her feelings as we saw.

APPLES FACILITATE VAR TRANSMISSION.
The two places shown to have been affected by Var (the planet in the opening of episode 1 and Al Shahal) both featured apples with distinctly Windermerean patterning. Windermere is using its apple exports to induce, target, facilitate Var transmission. Maybe the apples serve a locator function (so Heinz can target attacks, perhaps by locating something distinctly Windermerean off their own planet), maybe they contain minuscule quantities of fold quartz (permitting Heinz's voice to be received), maybe the apples themselves do not serve this function but their packaging does (a big hunk of fold quartz embedded in the shipping crates).
(Note: I'm not saying that the apples need to be eaten for this to work, because there clearly wasn't enough time for the shipment that Freyja arrived in to have reached the Zent base on Al-Shahal.)
Also, Freyja is frequently confused/conflated with the goddess Idunn, who was in charge of the apples of immortality.

A lot better. Insofar, I like all the characters but I think what is really being done well right now is Ragna. Ragna feels so much more alive than Frontier or even City 7. Also I think Delta really got going right out of the gate in episode 1 and 2 while Frontier felt like it was spending time trying to immediately capture the SDF feel but modern and took a while to truly carve its identity
