I'm not so sure about this. KyoAni is usually light hearted, even their serious stuff. The general atmosphere in their shows is just so different of what you'd expect in a horror show/setting. Japanese also have some interesting but strange ideas when it comes to horror. It usually devolves into comedy, not always intended I guess.

That being said, Hyouka had some great thicker atmosphere parts. The movie case with the building and the onsen one. I think Takehomo could really do this.

Takemoto is familiar with horror. Also Kyoukai no Kanata had body horror, which is my favourite kind.

Shinsekai Yori was nerve wrecking as fuck. I'd definitely love a KyoAni remake of it because production values were its biggest issue but I don't think any other director could replicate the feeling SSY gave.

i really dont think anime as a medium really works well for horror. Any studio that attempts to make something in that genre ends up utterly shit or comedic for some reason.
