There's a lot of subtleties in both Death and End that you'll notice the second time around.
And there's shit that you'll only notice if you watch it frame-by-frame.

It's referenced briefly in the show.
In fact, there's a shocking amount of stuff that happens in EoE that's referenced in the show in advance that you wouldn't notice without looking for it.
Things like the recovery of the Lance of Longinus and the production of the Mass Produced Evas are both foreshadowed but don't receive follow up until the films.

Just finished EoE for the first time after my 2nd watching of NGE. Despite knowing full and well that EoE is "better" holistically, I somehow liked the slow buildup to the sleek Protagonist-centered closure about self respect than EoE's parable about mankind, thats really ambitious but also all over the place.
Imo nothing tops the emotional impact (pun intended) of 1h clusterfuck that is shinjis mind building up to CONGRATULATIONS

The mech action is fucking brutal and terrifying. For me the characters are still what sells it, not so much looks (though I do like redheads), but I can relate to Shinji and Rei, and I can't hate Asuka, hating somebody for how they cope with their issues, especially a fictional character that you can know the ins and outs of just feels autistic.
I just don't understand the politics of the waifuwars. Fighting over table scraps of a dumbed down series of movie just so they can have the right to say their character got fucked over the most to justify their victim complex.
