Yeah 2009 was when shit really started going downhill cause the economy tanked and then you had people getting convinced that stuff like Bakemonogatari was the greatest most deep shit ever conceived and now we're stuck with endless sequels of it and a bunch of other shitty LN/VN/Mobage money making and milking schemes cause producers kind of shot themselves in the foot on the whole being able to make anime more accessible to the rest of the world and more than just the otaku demographic front.
For what it's worth anime is cheap and disposable to make yet overpriced in distribution and merchandise enough that it can kind of subsist on it's current stable of whale fanboys and fangirls for now at least but I'm not convinced it's made any new and actually loyal fans in this decade (shitposting teenagers that just follow whatever the seasonal hype is don't really count) and there sure don't seem to have been very many hit new franchises starting up since the top of the decade. Girls und Panzer, Love Live and Madoka if that's still a thing are all that really comes to mind.
