Most Toonami shows many anime fans grew up with aren't that great. Trigun and Rurouni Kenshin are overrated as fuck and mediocre at best. DBZ and Gundam Wing are pure garbage carried ENTIRELY by nostalgia goggles. Yu Yu Hakusho and Outlaw Star are pretty good though.

You got that backwards. Cowboy Bebop was well made in almost every aspect. My only complain would be its overly episodic nature. I would have liked a slightly more story driven narrative.
As for Samurai Champloo, I couldn't even finish it. It was 100% style and zero substance, and the style wasn't even good. Gangsta culture is horrible to begin with, and this Japanese attempt at imitating made it even worse. It felt like something only a young teenager would think was cool.

Naruto and SAO are an OK show despite being two of the most hated show on /a/.
I think HxH is on a level of its own and it is easily among my top three favorite anime. The characters are written incredibly well, and I think that Togashi focusing the plot on aec-by-arc basis rather than by some end goal is great decision. Story never gets boring that way.
Erased was good, and most people dislike it just because there's this notion that newfags will think it is the best show ever. Another reason why it was good was because aside from the shorts, Rakugo and Konosuba, everything else was shit.

Guilty Crown is awesome. It takes some actually unexpected turns, girls are engaging and the music/visuals are great.
