I would say so. It's easy to mistake Fumoffu for a spin-off, but it's actually part of the plot of the main series, and it assumes you know the main characters.

Chobits has always been pure cancer, that """"""""protagonist""""""" was one of the most useless characters I have ever seen and Chii was a personality-less retard. I didn't believe they loved each other for a second. What probably annoyed me the most, though, was the fact that it had the potential to be good, but they chose to waste half their episodes with pointless filler and then they failed to make the characters interesting.

I disagree, anime are still referencing things from the 80s if not older. I don't think Lucky Star or other anime from around that time like Seitokai no Ichizon have aged poorly, and I don't think modern referential anime likek Shirobako will be poorly aged in the future either.
