I actually watched a lot of SOL before reaching K-on and NNB was one of my favorites and when I finish it I just felt satisfied. But when K-on ended I felt depressed.
The only other thing thing that gives me a similar comfy feeling is Yotsuba.
And is strange because of the other SOL shows I watched k-on was at first my least favorite but now is the one I miss the most.
K-ON isn't pure SOL. There's goals and progress and climaxes. That's part of what makes it great, but a perfect SOL wouldn't have those things.

It was a great way to start season two.
One of my favorite parts is when they playGohanwa Okazu at the school festival because of the way everyone laughs at the silly name of the song but they end up loving it, that along with the reaction of class 3-2 (specially the girls in the front) was a heartwarming moment but I only appreciate after a rewatch because this happens during episode 20 and you know what other event takes place during that episode. And said event trends to overshadow the others .

Yea Ep 20 is game changer. I was already sold after hardware store episode but that episode sealed the deal for me. But is not just the audience the characters were affected by that too. I think Mio was specially affected not only by her unusual "we were great right?" reaction in that episode but because she was willing to ignore the recommendation from her school just to stay with her friends not to mention Yui and Ritsu doing the unthinkable by getting accepted in one of the best universities.

Funnily enough the Takotsuboya doujinshi went in for this angle. Because of how Yui is and music works within her she can riff around any melody, adding to it, probably to the degree where she just needs a queue by someone else to then add on immensively to their ideas.
