Are animes getting more popular or less popular in the west?
We no longer have saturday morning animes like yugioh, dragon ball or digimon, the big 3 are no longer big. I feel we lack animes that make people get into the genre.
on the other hand the internet makes "west friendly" animes like attack on titan or one punch man really popular
I also feel like the western mentality/tastes in general are becoming more and more grounded in reality and hostile towards fiction . Kid channels air more live-action shows and less cartoons, superhero movies are all dark and serious, video games too.
TV airing less anime means nothing considering TV is a dying media platform.
Anime is struggling to regard itself as kid friendly like DBZ etc did, but that doesn't mean a drop in popularity.

well, kids surely talk less about animes,
it is still popular now with the +16 generation but I feel like the younger generations won't get into as much

Yeah, but again, that doesn't correlate with a drop in popularity.
Like the OP pointed out, superhero movies are becoming less and less kid friendly, and the source comics for them aren't as big as they once were, while superheroes as a genre in film are experiencing a boom.
The Internet has indeed brought more attention to japanese entertainment and made anime more accessible through social media and stream sites.
