Nah, you're confusing visual direction with "this is throwing abstract visuals at me, it must be good direction", which happens with a lot of over-pretentious entry-level watchers. Good direction is using angle, color, lightning, and framing to compliment the action or intent of the scene. There's not very many active directors who do that better than Igarashi.
