Aren't Rebuild way better than NGE?
After watching them I thought that It was time to finally start NGE but since it's pretty much the same I got bored also the quality is disappointing and pretty mediocre compared to the new one.
Should I just wait for 4.0 ? What irritates me most is that NGE isn't full screen.
Rebuilds are sequels so...

Yes, the color palette doesn't fit the toned, dark and disturbing atmosphere of the series. This neo-gainax color palette fit the whimsical shows like TTGL, FLCL or Diebuster but not something like Eva which is really different in tone.
None of the animated sequences outdid the sequences done by Mitsuo Iso in the series and EoE. Imaishi's and Sushio's animation style again isn't a fit for the series and wasn't really that impressive either. Yoshinari should have been used more and in the end only Inoue provided some fitting and impressive scenes.
Often the problem was with the direction. Sure the scene of Kaworu's death was bloody and striking but it made it look like something from Elfen Lied and didn't carry as much emotional weight as the one with the series.
Shot Composition speaks for itself I think. It's as if Anno forgot how to utilize space in a creative way to reflect the character's inner thoughts as in the series. I mean sure, let's show the character being down and feeling alone. How do we do that? In the series he showed shinji in a distance amongst an empty city? In the Rebuilds? The cities are steaming with life, taking away the focus from Shinji and disrupting the atmosphere of loneliness.
Basically, the main problem with the Rebuils is that they are just plain uglier.

I don't know, that's the native resolution. There's really nothing to do about it unless you stretch it. I think it looks great. That's how it was meant to look, like all anime of that time.
