I'm watching it, though haven't started Stars yet, and have to say that despite being feel good at times and whatnot, it's usually very boring, without any complication, rivalry or negative feelings.
Everything is just smiling, no matter who wins, sugar and catchphrases. Not a moment where we can root for someone.
I'm hoping Stars will spice up the stale waters a little bit.

Yeah, the first Aikatsu group had at least some rivalry going on.
Once Akari and co came though, I don't think we ever had to be rooting for anything, past Akari having some problems with her special appeal at the start.
I also miss Ichigo, and Otome even moreso, even if Akari was somewhat of a substitute for Ichigo, they never found anyone like Otome.

The problem with WUG isn't that it's a deconstruction, the problem is that it only did that for all of 3 episodes and the rest of it was endless soap opera and forced drama that gets resolved extremely quickly.
But it's already my favorite anime ever.

Madoka was the most interesting character in a while, but she hardly got any appearances and chances to show it off.
Loved how she could say some pretty rude (as in a bit too straight forward) things with an honest smile.

Idol anime is fucking garbage but Aikatsu is the most grating garbage

It wasn't even moeshit really, just boring things.
It was good at world building, but never used the world, the characters didn't have really cute moments, or dialogues which were interesting, there was no fanservice or pandering either.
Hope Stars will be better.
