I've only read half of the only book released so far, but it's ok so far. It's not the best sci-fi novel I've ever read (so far), but it's far from the worst.
I'd say it's worth it if you like LotGH and like to read. Lots of little extra details and background on stuff. Like Yang's Jewish father. I don't think the anime ever talked about him.
And Yang kind of comes across as a bit more of an asshole to me in the book. Just a bit. And in a good way.

The Yang ones seem to highlight how he'd get sent on horrible errands because he was a little shit, but in this case it also showed how he learned to be less of one due to the influence of Fischer, Murai and Patrichev.
More would have been nice, but I don't know what they could have done.
