Well in its defense, I'd say that the studio probably made the most out of the original source material, which is a shitty-ish Vocaloid song. I wouldn't be that infuriated in regards of whatever the plot decided to be.
Besides, as you say, the designs were cool. We also got macaroons and probably one of the few examples of non-shitty 3D fights, so it was alright in my book.

You're correct about that, but that's not necessarily what makes it bad. Although to be honest, I'm not sure I would classify it as bad in a classical sense of the word. I'd say it would be better classified as a "retarded wild ride". It starts out pretty normal in the first season but then some dumb shit happens. Its still enjoyable if you can laugh your way through it (or you're just oblivious)
