It could have avoided going into LETS KILL EVERYONE mode in the end, and instead just kill off a handful of kids from the class.
Izumi is such a fantastic girl. I'm glad she managed to make it through without dying - she threw up a lot of flags in that last episode, but she managed to pull through anyway.
I especially liked the ending, where everyone realized what a terrible character Mei was, so Sakakibara decided to hook up with Izumi. The last scene, where the two of them kissed on the ferris wheel, looking down at the town was really romantic. I'm sure I wasn't the only one who teared up a little bit.
Izumi simply gets things done. She's a girl who has the lives of all of her classmates riding on her shoulders. She carries that weight and won't let it break her. She values the lives of other people - she cares about what happens to them, and as they start dying, the knowledge that she's partially responsible starts to build up on her shoulders. But does she give up? No way. She just keeps going along, trying not to crack under the pressure.
This comes as a contrast to Mei, who, when Sakakibara talked to her, decided to talk back, dooming her classmates to a horrible death. She even knew who the extra was all along, but rather than say anything, she decided to let even more people die. In the end, the only reason she bothered to go stop the extra is because her classmates finally decided to kill her; she might not care if other people died, but once her life was in danger, then she'll do something about it. She's selfish and a sociopath.
Izumi however, didn't hesitate. She went to kill the extra when she (thought) she knew who it was. She wasn't going to let anybody else die. She's smart, beautiful, nice and mature. And to top it all off, she's a god damned hero.
She's a fantastic girl. And I for one am very glad that, rather than dying a senseless death in the last episode, she instead survived and hooked up with Sakakibara. She earned that little slice of happiness.

Not OP, but it was pretty bad IMO.
I heard about this and thought it would end up being an interesting water regardless. The problem was it started too slow, if you watched it an episode at a time with /a/, it might have been bearable but it just seemed so boring. The show doesn't kick off until around the 3rd episode and there's nothing to keep you entertained except the possibility of interesting events later on in the show. It just seemed like, the show was alright, but it's all opinionated.

To start this off, I'm going to point out that horror is the weakest main genre of fiction. Certain sub-genres, like slapstick comedy and adult romance, are weaker by a mile, but horror is the weakest general one. And the most enjoyable horror tends to be the mystery horror stories. It's why King's short stories tend to be far better than his longer ones, and why Christie was a damn good horror writer on occasion.
In this case, like the book, Another starts off pretty strong. You're put in an unsettling environment, answers aren't being given readily, and as unexplained items are explained, another takes it's place. You're also put in with a unique premise; the calamity isn't blamed on some ghost or spirit or demon, and instead of tackling the problem via said supernatural being, they try and fight it via it's symptoms.
The deaths are ridiculous, but they're gruesome without putting bodies in hilarious positions bar the very end; the series plays out as if Final Destination actually had some decent writersFuck you, you know it's true. Fuck spirit trails 5 times over.
In addition, the characters are actually likeable. The relationships between them is explored, and as shown by the obsession with Izumi, people actually want different people to live. Hell, by horror standards, when they went, they went somewhat normally. Heartattacks, spine breaking, burns, all fine. If I can have a death where somebody isn't raped sideways a group of people infected with redneck virus as they eat you, I'm okay.
Of course, the ending set the pace throttle to overdrive, but anime does that anyway. The resolution was decent too, which is rare for horror.
In short, it was a decent mystery horror, with anime tropes being your 'faults'. If you can't appreciate a good story and people mercilessly mocking it with pie images, then I'm sorry.

In the bookthe shitstorm at the end doesn't happen. It's closer to the resolution of a detective novel like Poirot, where all the facts are drawn together by the main characters. People still die, but not quite in the same way.

Misaki is a quintessential chuuni. There's like a zillion parodies at least partially based on her. That makes Another notable and important. It's more fun to see chuunibyou played straight than all the derivations.
There's so many joke chuunibyou characters now that it's a joke on the level of creativity as harem comedy. Ironically, there's even an eye patch chuuni in Mayoiga. There should be more anime like Another that does it seriously. That's the only way to come up with something new.
