Were these two a good inclusion to the Hidamari cast?
they aren't bad but I prefer the dynamic of just the original 4

Nazuna just seems like a lamer version of Yunocchi. I really liked the skit where all the boys would help her but a lot of times it just feels like helplessness moe overload. They seem like really flat characters compared to the rest of the cast

There are certain similarities but there are fundamental differences which I think makes them hard to compare. If you take into account the drama CDs which go into more depth of their personalities than the anime adaptation does, well, their entire dynamic is very different.
Not yet sure how I feel about 茉里. It took me a fair while to get used to the main four extending to six, after spending years with only the four.

Nori is cool while Nazuna wasn't all that interesting.
Nazuna has at least grown to be her own character, and I think she's pretty different compared to Yuno.
With Matsuri teasing her, Nori has finally something else to do besides being the dull tsukkomi.
I have to agree that I didn't really find them that interesting either back when I first saw Hoshimittsu though.
Even after they showed up the show still tended to focus heavily on Yuno and Miyako, so they didn't have much of an impact. You don't ever learn who their classmates or other friends are. Hiro and Sae have Natsume and they went on that class trip to Hokkaido with 3 other girls.

There's this girl who seems to be Nori's friend. You don't even see her face though. And Nazuna has all those boyfriends.
Maybe we'll see more of them later, it's not like Hiro's and Sae's friends had all that many appearances either.

Yeah they were. They don't stand out much themselves, but their presence gave Yunocchi juniors which helped her take some steps forward in growing up and gave Miyako some more people/excuses to show off how close she is to Yuno, so it works out.
