"Did you ever hear the Tragedy of Darth Dekiru the Wise?"

"No."

"I thought not. It's not a story that /djt/ would tell you. It's a Nihongo legend. Darth Dekiru was a Dark Lord of Nihongo so powerful and so wise, he could use the Force to influence the kanji-chlorians to create...posts. He had such a knowledge of the Dark Side, he could even keep the VNs he cared about...from being translated."

"He could actually...save kamige from translation?"

"The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural."

"What happened to him?"

"He became so powerful, the only thing he was afraid of was losing his power...which, eventually of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew. Then his apprentice deleted his Anki deck in his sleep. Ironic. He could save others from English...but not himself."

"Is it possible to learn this power?"

"Not from /djt/."
>>
I was wondering if anybody had a good physical jap-eng dictionary they could recommend. The glossary in Genki blows.

Question: I began studying my core2k/6k after a long period of time and i feel something is not right. I've seen about 600 cards already and doing fine, but i'm starting to get some very difficult and far-fetched cards like 前売り券 , 活字. It's not that they are particularly hard, but i feel like i could be learning more useful words at this point.
It's something wrong with my deck or is it normal?
>>
Do you drink cawfee while doing your reps?
>>
>>139829778
If you're looking for words that aren't useful, Core2k/6k isn't the place. Everything there is there precisely because they're uber common.

Repost from last thread.
If it doesn't garner any feedback I'll assume that there isn't any current interest and I'll keep the project to personal preferences any maybe upload the final version pdf when it is done likely sometime around December or the start of 2017. Image used purely to draw attention- sorry about that.

Could I grab the attention of a few anons?
https://a.uguu.se/yshbqj_RelativeClause.pdf
Above is an example of one of the concepts from the DoJG (basic volume) which has had its respective image from the DoJG Anki deck converted to text, added to the DoJG.pdf.
I've converted a few dozen concepts so far and are going to start adding them batches, but haven't got a format laid out. The docx version of the DoJG.pdf I am using is done really well, everything properly in styles, so I used two pre-existing styles; one for the 【Notes】/【Related Expression】and one for the body of the Notes text, so tweaking that is just a matter of tweaking the styles.

Question on the format: if that okay for the Notes section or is there a more ideal layout? Also, what else would you like to see integrated into the document so it can be used as a mainstay replacement for manually looking things up across the three different stand alone Dictionary of Japanese books?

Just curious, since many of you seem to spend almost all your study time learning Kanji, how do you make time to learn vocabulary?

Japanese seems like such a hard (and impressive) language to learn.

>since many of you seem to spend almost all your study time learning Kanji
That's not the case. Learning kanji through vocab is the official DJT approved method.

I guess this is what a clueless RTK person would say, but it's completely false. Those are actually even easier than single kanji words are, as the optimised core deck loves to hammer a bunch of words that recycle the same kanji into your head in a row.
>>
>>139833863
You know it does that so you can learn the kanji right?

>official DJT approved method
This bullshit only serves to start flame wars.
There is no "official method", that's why the guide has many different suggestions and the CoR has a diverse range of resources suiting many different approaches.

Those sort of posts are the reason why this thread has so many stupid arguments over different opinions on the "right" way to do something. I don't know what you personally gain out of that sort of flamebaiting, but it negatively impacts everyone else who uses the thread who aren't here for /b/tard shitposting.

Sex scenes use way too many words. I hope that was Nao's last scene.

Apparently a native can read every route of Satsukoi in 10 hours. I've probably spent 4 hours just on the sex scenes in 1 route so far, and there may still be more to come.

>>139849949

>>139850067
You don't understand. Satsukoi sex scenes are like taking an anatomy class. There are words for body parts that I don't even know in English. Unfortunately I didn't save that one. But I did save 粘膜 which I'm sure will come in handy.

Sorry if this is a stupid or obvious question, but is there some way that I can banish cards from anki into an alternate deck? I currently have around 20 cards that I can just never fucking remember floating around my circulation, and I want to make them their own deck so I can tackle them every day without clogging everything else up.
>>
>>139849949
>>139850222
Are you adding every new word or just words that you weren't able to guess the first time? Also what are you doing man didn't you start this like a few months ago why'd it take you a few weeks to get from one H scene to the next? I thought you were doing Flyable Heart routes at like 1 route a week / a few days towards the end.
>>
>>139850337
I hope that word never comes up in a VN.
>>
>>139850378
Just make a new deck, select those cards, and use the "move deck" (or whatever it's called) button in the browse window.
>>
>>139850411
Sweet, will try.
>>
>>139850383
I add most words, usually not if I guess them, but sometimes I do it anyway.

In FH the common route was really boring which is why it took me 7-8 months just to read it, but the character routes were compelling, so I read them faster. Satsukoi is just not interesting right now. It teased me with a really interesting scene, but then immediately switched back to stupid high school shit and sex. I think it will get interesting eventually, I just have to keep going.

Some days I read FH for 6 hours. The longest I've read Satsukoi was 2 hours, and that was today just because I wanted to get the sex over with.

I am disappointed with myself. I really expected to go faster this time.

Yeah it's surprisingly how much more compelling most of the routes in Flyable Heart were compared to the common route (though a lot of that might've been related to reading capabilities and vocab). I understand the pains of something not being compelling though.

I was reading Seikishi Melty Lovers and had to put it on the side and read it on and off alongside other stuff most of the time because I just didn't find it very interesting aside from the end of the routes. Plus it had way too many H scenes. Only really liked one of the routes.

I'd probably force yourself to read more than you are and if it's still not compelling after you finish that route then just drop it and look for an interesting moege/charage or read the FH fandisc or Mayuri's VN or something (I'm probably going to start reading the fandisc tomorrow after I catch up on the anime that have aired this season and then Mayuri's VN after I finish the fandisc). After reading both of those your vocab and reading speed should be fast enough that you should be able to get through the not-so-compelling parts relatively fast with a bit of willpower.

>>139850857
FH was bretty gud outside of the common route. Especially if you read all the routes and pieced stuff together yourself as you went along. Route order would probably also matter (I imagine doing Yui's last would be best).

It physically hurts me to see you putting yourself through this. I spent like 8 hours today reading my VN and plan to do the same tomorrow, and am loving every second of it. To think you would choose such a boring VN that you have to force yourself through it.

Although to be fair, it might just be your taste is shit, since the common route of Flyable Heart is actually good.

>FH fandisc or Mayuri's VN

I read the fandisc for a couple days, but decided I wanted to save it for later.

Next VN is probably White Album (not 2) or Leyline. As of now, I still plan to finish Satsukoi though.

>>139851044
Even when I used to read VNs in English it usually took me weeks or months to finish one. I usually have to force myself to even do things I enjoy, or I end up wasting time all day doing nothing.
>>
>>139851319

>>
>>139851307
I mostly just didn't like Seikishi. I think FH's common route might've just been because I was too shit at reading to enjoy it at the time, I'll have to re-read it down the line and see. If anything learning Japanese has made me like VNs even more and made me more interested in manga/LNs (but for now I'm keeping my focus on VNs).

>>139851319
Just watch a seasonal show with subs from http://kitsunekko.net/dirlist.php?dir=subtitles%2Fjapanese%2F a 32bit player, and texthook it with http://pastebin.com/raw/DgZ84qwk

You'll have to shift the subs after the OP, mid-ep, and ED though (f1 / f2 in MPC). Just open the sub file and compare the time difference between the audio and the line in the sub file and adjust accordingly.
>>
>>139851525
How big of a step up plot-wise is the 2nd and 3rd? I noticed it has a fairly large jump in ratings as well as seeing mentions of it them being harder to read than the first one, but not sure by how much.
>>
>>139851574
no idea but the writing gets harder to read

>I think FH's common route might've just been because I was too shit at reading to enjoy it at the time
I think this is likely, it felt really really really long when I read it but it's not actually, it's just I read ridiculously slowly. You'll probably notice the difference when you read the common route of Mayuri's VN.

I know it's better this way because it means I'm doing fewer new cards than I need to and spending less time in Anki than I need to, but it's still frustrating that it won't get any easier because of how I choose what words to add.

it's normal to not have super good retention of every vocab until you actually start reading them in context constantly, don't stress it.
>>
>>139856106
This. Learning in context still trumps everything else. Try studying with yomichan.
>>
>>139856106
>>139856158
Did you not read the post? I am reading them in context and all of the new cards I do are mined from stuff I'm reading and I keep the original sentence I found the word from on the back of the card, I'm just only adding difficult words and words I consistently had trouble guessing while reading.

RTK worked great for me, my retention in Core went from 70-75% to 95-99%, so that's not the problem. It's just that I'm mostly adding challenging words that I had trouble guessing or words would only pop up once or twice every couple VNs (or less often).
>>
>>139856329
This. RTK helped me immensely with retention.

Only thing RTK doesn't help me with is grammar and holy shit I can't get grammar to work for me. Probably because I've turned into an anki drone.

>>
Can someone here help me translate this sentence? 中出しされているの喜び
>>
>>139856572
Nah, anki accounts for your absence in it's SRS algorithm. Just go through the 800, maybe at X words a day if you can't handle them all at once.

For new cards, 10 is a minimum for making good progress. Never go lower (except for going 0 when too busy (which shouldn't be too often, plan around anki not plan ignoring anki) or when lowering reviews). 20 is more ideal, 30+ is fast but hard.
>>
>>139855698
I keep my intervals at the default. I don't try to learn the "whole" new card under one day. Unless it's an easy one, I usually fail it the next day. Though by the third day at most, I'll have definitely remembered it for good. I found that this way the learning is more spaced out, and words stick better.
>>
>>139856430
Grammar is easy to grind in anki with example sentences.
>>
>>139856727
>Nah, anki accounts for your absence in it's SRS algorithm. Just go through the 800, maybe at X words a day if you can't handle them all at once.
Alright anon, I'll try that. I'll go back to adding new cards once I lower to at least 150 reviews a day.
>Never go lower (except for going 0 when too busy (which shouldn't be too often, plan around anki not plan ignoring anki) or when lowering reviews).

Yeah, I know. Some shit happened and I couldn't study, I fail like half the cards now.
