Its definately worth a read. Takahiro's main strength as an author has always been to create amazing character interactions and chemistry within the respective character groups.
Sure there is a brutal nature to this series that never really goes away but the characters are all pretty solid. The feels that some of their deaths have invoked in me have been dramatic. This could only have come about from having highly endearing and likable characters

The humour is definitely the worst part, why Takahiro thought he could write good humour was beyond me but the inside jokes between all the characters is definitely one of the worst parts of the series.
