It seems like Kamachi can finally do the sidekick dynamic that I think he wanted for Index (the character) but without all the problems. Othinus can be there for almost every scene just by tagging along since she's fucking tiny and Touma can talk to her whenever it's convenient for the plot. Touma can do his introspection by talking to Othinus at Kamachi's convenience and they don't have to hide anything from each other because that's how they were set-up (since he's doing introspection and she's the character he's bouncing his thoughts against).
It's the same reason why Lucy from Mx0 was my favorite character. She knew all of Taiga's secrets and talked to him all the time mainly because they were together the most due to her convenient role and size. It may seem like she was just a convenient device for Taiga to bounce his thoughts against/someone to talk to because he was keeping a secret from everyone else but she turned out to be my favorite because they didn't have to hide anything from each other.
