The excerpt they sing is from the first movement and is literally "Joy, o wondrous spark divine, Daughter of Elysium"
in this case it's trying to show off how they still have these happy moments together despite tragedy(i.e it's as though they're sending off the soul of Angelica). I mean the one Handler gets a chuckle out of how absurd it is that they're singing #9 even though it's a cold night.
people can argue they would have preferred a more somber tone to the scene, but it's not random or ill-suited

Literally Sauske personality wise, I absolutely hated the second season, and that entire section of the manga because the story suddenly decides to focus on this dude no one gives two shits about that barely has anything to do with the original main cast/plot until the very last episode form what I recall.
It was basically a whole new story that should have been just it's own thing instead of intruding.

Who the fuck care?
Second season script was by the mangaka. The art suffered somewhat by comparison but the story was tighter and more complex, successfully airing the passions, principles and objectives of the opposing factions, humanizing them and honoring their sacrifice and courage and so ramping up the stakes in the conflict. The sound track was just as good if not better. The OP and ED second season were better.
