HOLY FUCK, I just finished it. This is garbage, GARBAGE. The first season (and ova) was a delicious dumb seinen with larger than life characters, drama and a ton of well detailed gore. The fights and tone were depressing since you knew someone was going to die on a painful/depressing way in a blink, and now... ALL OF IT IS GONE. Fucking gone, and what did they replaced it with? Shonen tropes, shonen humor, cheap shonen colors and fucking CGI.
This is worse than a complete cancellation, is an abomination, it was better off dead; this is so sad, so so sad.

The premise was always incredibly dumb and tasteless, and the writing of season 2 isn't likely to be much different, even if its story is communicated more clearly. The addition of humor is mostly just a nice changeup from the joyless dirge of the original series, but the punchlines are all lazy sexist garbage. The manga is somewhat notorious for its racist stereotyping of the squad members, which was "fixed" in season one by gutting all of their personalities to "bland and grumpy." Now that they're all acting like people again, I imagine the racism will creep in to join the show's omnipresent sexism. So no, it will probably always be trashy. But at least it doesn't look like trash anymore.

This was explained around chapter 100-ish during the type-red operation shenanigans. Every member of Annex 1 was given Tree Hoppers genes which allow them to keep up with cockroaches somewhat, even when transformed. Not to mention Akari has a naturally stronger base, due to his 6 billion M.O. operations.

Season 1 killed off a majority of the fodder. Akari later in the series takes on an army of them solo. Most of the fighters later on are strong enough to fodderize super Johj's, which are 3 times better than normal ones in every physical way.

In normal form, yeah. But only the special types can outspeed the "transformed" humans and only if they have the correct animal base. Normal JOHJ aren't that much of a deal against competent transformed guys.
The big ass JOHJ Akari was battling in this episode, I think it was a mole beetle thing which main feature it's his hard ass shell, not his speed.
