Are the higher-ups pedaling propaganda left and right? What are their traditions? How did these countries come to be? How do their laws differ? How do their cultures differ? What different parties divide the political scene, if any? How's the economy? How are foreign affairs? Does Noctis want to build a wall on the southern border of Niflheim? And so on.
Now, when was the last time SE ever dealt with politics in such a way in any of their games? If you know one, please name it, because I'd play the hell out of that shit.

As it happens, some people in the current dev team care a lot about the very things you mentioned. Wan Hazmer's job for example is developing and differentiating various cultures of the FFXV world. One of the reasons why the XV core team has so many foreign devs is to provide a more broad perspective than what an insular, pure Japanese team would have had. Tabata himself is a history buff and probably the biggest fan of Matsuno at SE.
Whether they'll succeed or not remains to be seen, but the XV team is more interested in the political/worldly aspect than any SE devs sans Matsuno.

So basically through the last few hours of the game (earlier if you read Datalogs like a good goy) you're informed that Orphan is powering all of Cocoon and all of the Fal'cie there. The plan becomes "well if we kill Orphan we'll stop being L'Cie and also we'll be telling God to shove it", so that's more or less what the party decides to do, despite this being known as a terrible idea.
So they go to do that and it turns out that's what Orphan WANTED them to do. They decide to tell Orphan to take his plan and shove it up his ass...by following his plan and killing him. This does exactly what you'd been figuring would happen for half the game: Cocoon falls out of the sky. Vanille and Fang use Magical Lesbian Powers to fuse together and use their crystal stasis to hold Cocoon up mid-fall. Everyone else just goes into Crystal Stasis.
Etro decides "Nah, that's not cool, they worked so hard!" and pulls them out of stasis. Everything is happy and Serah and Snow immediately get started on their engagement plans. Roll credits.

If I remember well she had the same powers as Noctis, that he wasn't the only snowflake around and there was some duality going around, but after her conversion to Luna she's only seen with a staff here and there, which makes her look more like a sorcerer/mage type. Now that she's revealed to be an oracle, it seems that her battle job is heading more to be like that.

In the Duscae demo he showed many facets. He's pretty wise (he and Ignis both serve as the voice of reason sometimes and seem to share the core worldview), has an unshakeable ego, is almost impossible to insult, has a mean teasing streak, but is also very chill and somewhat distant.
