Today's KyoAni would do a lot better than this, well, it'd mostly still depend on the character designer they picked but it doesn't necessarily mean it'd be Clannad all over again.
Either way, even if the designed stayed shit, they'd tie it together a lot better because better production quality.

The main reason KyoAni looks far superior even just at a glance is because their colors were so much better it's insane.
