The one thing the show has going for it is reaction images. It was an extremely popular reaction image resource. A few years ago anyway. It seems to be losing relevance in that regard recently.

if the animation quality was lower the shows writing would have had the same impact, there was not much to be gained from spending more on the animation.
though I do love the quality of the animation, honestly they could have slashed the budget in half and it would be the same show just slightly less smoother in points where it doesnt need to be.
so even if we ignore the bad sales it had, it simply could have made more money by using appropriate budgeting, and probably would have gotten more episodes out of it too.

I really like japanese humor but Nichijou is just unfunny most of the time.
I didnt get the jokes so I find the show boring and shitty
thats a valid complaint,deal with it. Nichijou flopped due to bad jokes which people didnt get. It isnt a masterpiece but at least shitty shows can be cult classics.
Also it had forced animation. This too is a valid complaint. First you go for the mature audience by using complicated jokes and then you butcher it by using "xD look how funny this is LOL" animation which targets kids.
Also characters werent interesting or even funny. One could make a case that they tried to make funny characters but instead they got bland,shallow and memey ones instead.
Nichijou flopped for a reason,not because it was underrated. Its because it was shit. There are no such things as underrated masterpieces. People will always notice a masterpiece and they will be always popular. Thats why theyre masterpieces

It had funny moments thats for sure. but the jokes were hit and miss. and some of the later on ones were built upon pre-existing jokes that weren't that great so the segment just felt boring and like it was dragging on. So the hit and miss just got worse and worse as the show went on, a segment would start and you'd just go "oh, its another one of these jokes"

I used to have a roommate who claimed to be way into anime. He'd only ever seen Lucky Star (not Haruhi), Nichijou, and Naruto. This show is so popular in the west it's ridiculous. Still good though.
How is the official manga translation? The first volume just came out.

At least Japanese comedy has varietian. You have crazy variety shows, talk shows, trip shows (people walk on streets, twons whatever and stop to eat or do random stuff), both very high and very low profile shows, and even yearly competitions for best manzai (two-person stand-up), pin (one-person anything goes) and konto (sketch comedy with usually 1-4 people group).

Have you ever been to an anime con? It is a very mixed crowd. There are tons of casuals, gamers, people who have a few favorite anime, or people who wouldn't have heard of nichijou. Especially the younger crowd of 16-20. It's worth it though when you find the people with high power levels or when you find someone cosplaying your favorite character from a show that aired 20 years ago.

The the problem with shows like nichijou or gintama is that they have lots of cultural or language based humor that would go right over your head unless you grew up with that stuff engrained into your everyday life.
Usually the only way you'd understand what the punchline is is through the subs having to explain what the joke is in one sentence or less. The joke just isn't as funny if you have to explain it.

This is just one example of nonsense japanese humor that you are not used to. Don't expect to find it funny. Nichijou is pretty much based on that kind of humor.
