Kamui is a Space-Time Ninjutsu. Obito can memorize and 'mark' different dimensions, allowing him to travel between them as displayed when he tries to open up several of Kaguya's dimensions with the assistance of Sakura and returns to the Ice Dimension with Sasuke and Sakura.
Obito essentially copied Impure World Resurrection after witnessing Kabuto's demonstration of how the technique worked. Impure World Resurrection is a Space-Time Ninjutsu as it takes a soul (or several) from the Pure Land or purgatory and places it into the Living World (souls trapped elsewhere cannot be summoned such as in the Shinigami's stomach). Once summoned, the soul requires a host body.
Kamui and Impure World Resurrection are both Space-Time Techniques based on dimension hopping. Since chakra still exists in the Pure Land and purgatory (spiritual chakra, which is covered during the Land of Waves), jutsu can still be utilized. Obito had already marked Kaguya's previous dimension before dying.
Obito basically used Impure World Resurrection on himself and used Kakashi's body as the host, but rather than taking control over Kakashi's body and making it his own, Obito left Kakashi in control and lent him his chakra instead.
