Given that most of people reading SAO have normalfag tastes, anons here likely read Berserk too, these two aren't mutually exclusive or something.
Secondly, comparing SAO and Berserk just because they have "black swordsman MC" is pointless, SAO is completely different genre. You might as well go into Raildex threads and complain to them why aren't they reading seinen manga instead of shounen novel, unless you're baiting.
>>
>>139336277
There is a fine distinction to what is considered good writing and genres. Yes there is that line where genres do not mix but when there is good writing and bad writing, Berserk will always win.

Kirito goes into a coma because of the evil NSA.

The surviving Law guys try to train up a peasant army in preparation for the Chaos invasion (Chaos are led by the literal God of Darkness who is also an evil NSA agent who eats souls like rape).

They get rekt, but Kirito's harem save them with GM accounts and deebeezeee powerlevels.

NSA connect UW to the internet and get 50,000 American players to connect (it was advertized to them as a beta test for a new AO-rated VRMMO where you're allowed to slaughter anything and everything you like, with blood and guts), they mass murder UW residents and think it's hilarious.

To defeat them the main characters get 2,000 Japanese VRMMO players to connect. Despite the difference in numbers the Japanese are superior and win because Asian gamer damashii.

Then PoH (who is also an evil NSA agent) unleashes a zerg rush of Korean and Chinese gamers who were recruited by being told this is the a Korean VRMMO that's in beta test but evil Japanese hackers broke into the server, turned off pain dampening and are torturing their countrymen.

Even when some Japs who speak Korean try to explain the situation to them they don't listen because hurr japanese

The other NSA guys are surprised this works, they thought it wouldn't be worth it because they didn't think Japan is more different from Korea/China than European countries are from each other (hur)

Koreans and Chinese overwhelm Japs because this is every Jap's worst nightmare.

Kirito wakes up (thanks to the literal POWER OF LOVE from his entire harem) and wipes them all out in one attack though.

(Also PoH's motivation is that he's Korean and he hates Japanese so when he got stuck in SAO he decided to set up Laughing Coffin and have them and the clearers kill each other for shits and giggles because Nips killing each other is hilarious.)

Kirito and Asuna become gods because of x10000000 acceleration.

The AIs explore VR space with rocket dragons
>>
>>139337574
If I recall, Kirito uses Eugeo's ice sword to basically one-shot the entire army of Korean gamers, turning them into ice-sculptures.

He uses his own wooden sword to turn PoH into a tree (and lets him mind-break from the two hundred years of absolute isolation)

He then uses Incarnate to grow wings, and chase after the big bad.

Do tell on how this trash is better than Naruto. I'm not even a Naruto fan, but tell me how this schlock is entertaining.

This is unironically, how children (and really bad writers) write their characters and stories. I don't come to this genre for "deep" and "meaningful" stories, but this literally literary trash, and the author has admitted he can't write and never tries to get any better.
I could probably go to fanfiction.net and actually find stories that compare to how this is written.

I'm perplexed, because shows that even just half as bad as this come and go. SAO takes pandering as far as it can go and the writing broke the barrel and is digging up dinosaur bones and it's doing great. The only thing I can see it has going for it is the music, animation and character design

Is that it? Is this the secret?

>>
>>139338009
Except Berserk is something that you should read if you want a real distinction of discovering good writing when you read in the real world or become an author. There are plenty of ways to go about this but Berserk will always win.
>>
>>139337720
>they didn't think Japan is more different from Korea/China than European countries are from each other
Uh, European countries are pretty different from each other. Or does the author actually think that Britain is just like Switzerland which is just like Italy which is just like Poland which is just like Norway which is just like Germany which is just like like Portugal? Did he somehow miss the hundreds of years of European wars?

The psychological aspect of at least quite of few of Berserk is considered phenomenal even Griffith. The aspects of understanding the characters of Berserk was great which is good writing by adding the character's depth to the story. Why should you keep SAO despite its bullshit story and characters and cheap attempts to grab the audience rather than to read good writing? Because you enjoy it? Enjoying shit is terrible and you should open your eyes and realize that you should see the real writing quality.
>>

Kawahara does put work in writing the setting, and some of scenarios and plotpoints are just entertaining shounen-tier read. I also like that it avoids some of cliches, like Kirito being indecisive or dense regarding girls or being charged with solving girls' mental problems(GGO is only thing that does this VN heroine routine).
>>
>>139338703
> great, Kirito avoiding cliche and making himself look better again despite his badly written character that cannot be fixed as shit like this cannot redeem itself. Writing like this cannot be improved by things like this anymore. Stop defending it.

>missing the access logs for the known-to-be-vulnerable electronic locks at the houses of GGO murder victims.

>missing that Johnny Black was just wandering around Tokyo with his face uncovered looking for Kirito to assassinate

And now when it comes to their drone project they just have utter shit security all around, they missed that their project was infiltrated by the CIA from the very beginning, they missed that Quinella had managed to bruteforce herself admin privileges, the whole thing is an utter shitshow.

It's retarded they have this set up like this, but it's also so they can have other people test their stuff without having to fly them to the Ocean Turtle. Like how Kirito was diving from 3 days (11 years) without ever knowing what was really happening.

>nothing bad could possibly come of this
To be fair, for someone to randomly say aloud, "List all commands" in English, without really understanding English as a language and just brute-forcing random sounds, is an abysmally unlikely scenario.

That all being said, RATH is the epitome of bad practice, and it makes me wonder how they this project is still afloat.

That really depends on what commands there are which are known to the residents of UW. If they have a sufficient number of empirically known commands some of which contain "list", some of which contain "all", some of which contain "command", and one knows the results of each command, it would be possible to use basic logic to parse the syntax and figure out what attributes might be associated with each word.

IIRC the original novel write those commands in kana

A possible explanation would be that, they might code it in English, but devs are Japanese and they teach UW people to use commands by themselves so obviously the system would have to accept japanized english to let staffs and uw residents to use those commands

And according to http://swordartonline.wikia.com/wiki/Sacred_Arts , the actual command is: Inspect Entire Command List

I'm pretty sure you still need to pronounce it in proper engrish, but I could be wrong.

But 7-9 kana, in random order? That's about 109 possible syllables.

That's close to Two-Hundred-Trillion possibilities at the least.
>>
>>139343027
*It's ~13 kana if it is "inspect entire command list", but "inspect" and "entire" should be something you can see a lot in different commands then it would cut down the randomness to 6 kana plus a few words that have similar meanings that also exist in the list of command.

I was rewatching SAO recently for kicks and something hit me that I never actually thought about before but suddently occurred to me this time because of related personal issues.

>Yuuki's doctor literally invites a stranger who walked in the door with no photo ID to look around the hospital, and spills everything about Yuuki's medical history and involvement in an ongoing clinical trial while Yuuki is in another room

Seriously, somebody please report this man to the Japanese medical licensing authority

Your fault for trusting those shitty anons.

The only good parts about Alicization were the gaybros adventures. (Prologue included)
Makes me wish Kawahara wrote more about them.

And some parts of the war. Except Alice; and the rest of the harem, fuck them.
DT pov was truly great.

>>
>>139347745
It diverges plenty of times, but each time it usually comes back to how the WN was.
Eugeo had to die in the LN, because the alternative was rewriting half of Alicization.

But changing a minor detail at the end of the final arc? Totally doable, without having to rewrite a quarter of the whole series.
>>
>>139348000
So the ending of the arc will be pretty much WN-like? Also it'll not be the end for LN? So more android Alice?
>>
>>139349516
Maybe?
Kawahara's editor wants him to keep writing, so Alicization probably won't be the end of the series, so yeah, more android Alice.

The Russians generally aren't depicted as sub-humans, as so common to depict westerners in Japanese media.

The best written ones have the Russians tear the US/West a new one before losing for semi plausible reasons.

The other thing is writing the Russian people as a whole as villainous is taboo. Usually it's renegades or people sore over the cold war.

That one would be because the anime failed to mention that the people targeted had first generation electronic locks, which didn't keep logs.

>>139344817
That would be because the anime skipped them checking Asuna's idea to make certain she really was Asuna Yuuki, and barely mentioned that Yuuki had told them they could tell Asuna everything if she showed up.

>>
>>139351262
Read the thread, also I really hope they diverge from WN ending, part of the reason why I never bothered looking up Alicization progress was the shittiness of end scenario that reminds me of his earlier writing style. This guy is a typical Japanese that can't do endings, but then again neither can a lot of western writers.
>>
>>139344219
>I'm up to date on the LNs. Only a small part of it is actually true.

He's talking about the WN. The main plot of the LN does seem to follow the WN so the WN ending might be quiet feasible.

Existing is a waste of of energy if you follow that line of thinking to its terminus, so just shut up and enjoy whatever, nothing you do has ever or will ever matter.

I was thinking more along the lines of whether he keeps the old Star King idea. I'm kind of expecting the non-Underworld parts of the ending to stay pretty much the same. I'm also kind of expecting the movie slots in around there, meaning he's following up on the "hey AR is kind of cool" side of Mother's Rosario first and putting the "hey fluctlights are made of magic and dreams" part of Alicization off for later.

Sans the VR aspects, Alicization is just a standard JRPG fantasy story

Lind has not shown up outside of Progressive, AFAIK. He may be leading up DDA, or he may be dead. There was a massive die-off at the 25th floor and an absence of leadership after Kibaou ran off, so Lind was either dead or completely sidelined by this point. Of course, this supposes that Kawahara remembers these small details of his canon. I guess we can only wait to see.
>>
>>139375602
The wiki seems to believe that Lind is alive later in the anime, for some reason, but I think their assumption is just based on the fact he leads the DDA, without considering he may have died.
>>
>>139376465
The fact that there was a leadership vacuum after the 25th floor would suggest that he's dead. There would be no pressing need for the KoB's ascendance if there was already a large and established clearing guild active.

Of course, this detail was first brought up all the way back in the main LN's volume 1 (I think), though the event was brought up again relatively recently in The Day Before. Progressive already represents retcons, so maybe Kawahara will change that, too.
>>
>>139376833
Rather than Lind dying, it's possible he merely suffered a lot of casualties, but not to the same extent that Kibaou's guild lost.

Agil is literally happily married

Also catfight is best fight:
>Her third jab finally to parry the incoming strike. Switching to the offense, Asuna finally caught a glimpse of the attacker’s features.

She gasped in shock.

An astonishingly beautiful knight with snow-white skin, roughly the same age as she was, was glaring at Asuna. Her sapphire eyes emanated an animosity that seemed to crackle like electricity.

Her golden hair, seemingly fashioned from the element itself, billowed in the air. Her hefty armor and smooth longsword both gleamed a flaxen yellow.

From a distance, the girls looked on, eyes wide. Finally, they managed weak cries.

“Knight-sama, please stop!!”

“She is not an enemy, Alice-sama…!!”

— «Alice»!

Hearing this name, Asuna was stunned again.

This elegant swordswoman before her, wielding a weapon the weight of a boulder — was the world’s first true Bottom-Up AI, the highly adaptive artificial intelligence, ALICE? She was the goal of Project Alicization, and what RATH and the invaders both thirsted for — the center of everything.

But why was Alice attacking her?

Trying her best to block the golden blade, just as Asuna was thinking of what to say, a voice akin to the music of a famous violinist flared from Alice’s cherry-colored lips.

“Who are you?! What do you want with Kirito?!”

As soon as she heard those words.

Asuna tossed everything aside, feeling a certain emotion well up inside her. Specifically, it was a sudden fury.

Her reflexive retort only added fuel to the fire.

“Why…? Because he’s mine!!”

Why did Rath teach the UW people to use Japanese but didn't get them to use Japanese names?
>>
>>139387979
RATH pretty much just gave the first children names with random kana, to make it seem like some sort of western fantasy.
It's a usual occurrence in Japanese stories taking place in western-fantasy-like worlds.

I'm actually amazed that Kawahara put enough thought into it that a culture of names sprung out of it.

Oh, and Goblins actually do use Japanese words for names.
>>
Does anything special happen to ASADA-SAN?
>>
>>139388271
Kawahara likes to do stuff with names. Besides Kirito and Sinon's names being derived from the real names, you've got Klein whose real name is related to the Japanese term for a Klein's bottle, and Silica has a whole short story about how she got Silica from her real name Keiko. Then of course the one big twist in the murder case hinged on the similarity in pronunciation between Kains and Caynz.

Does Accel World have this pop up often?
>>
>>139390711
Not usually in the same way given the naming scheme of burst linker avatars. "Color Noun" doesn't leave too much room for the same kind of word play. Aside from Black Lotus being nicknamed "Princess Snow Black", The only one I can think of off the top of my head is Lagoon Dolphin. Her friend kept calling her by her real name Ruka, and Kuroyuki didn't realize that at first, as she thought they were simply shortening "iruka" - Japanese for dolphin.

Other than that it's usually stuff like Silver Crow having a body with the properties of silver, Chocolate Puppeteer having a body with properties of chocolate, etc. The only one that stands out is Sky Raker. The name basically meaning 'person who sweeps across the sky'.
>>
>>139390711
